Hit the hundy………..yes, 100 days on the road. 100 fantastic days, enjoying our beautiful homeland. A little stiff from our big walk yesterday we opted to go biking today. Stopping for picnic lunch and coffee sitting on the waterfront and soaking up the sun was the best part:). After lunch we took a road that runs up from town (School Road) to the start of the Opua Bush walk and lookout. Bikes locked up at the bottom of the track we headed up the steep track to the Lookout. What beautiful views down across Paihia and outer islands then around to Opua. The track is a good steady climb and the track is well maintained. It took us about 25-30 minutes to get up and about half that time to run down. Day 101 We left ... read more

Life is highway……well a short one anyway. Kerikeri to Paihia was our big move today. Via the Haruru Falls (fairly unimpressive after the Kerikeri Rainbow Falls). It’s been a glorious day and we have spent a majority of it sitting on the beach and wandering around Paihia:). Later this afternoon Lance ran the Waitangi to Haruru falls track whilst I casually rode around on my bike looking for a few photo shots. The views up above Waitangi looking across the golf course and out across the water are pretty nice. Day 99 After a fairly average sleep last night we opted to do the Bay of Islands Full Circle Walk. The track starts from Paihia, then to Opua, across to Okiato (Via vehicle ferry) up to Russell then back across the passenger ferry to Paihia. This ... read more

I flew into Auckland from Melbourne but I only spent an evening in the former, so I can't say much about it except that The Attic Hostel has a really inviting atmosphere - the best of this trip, in fact. I took a 10:30AM Intercity bus to Paihia, the central point in the Bay of Islands. Apparently Captain Cook counted 144 of these islands and he was truly terrible at naming things, with such gems as "The Bay of a Lot of Islands.” The drive was stunning, and it just made me wonder what the rest of New Zealand would bring. But when I got to the town center, I was disappointed, as it's just another touristy town. Across the bay is Russell, a ritzy town that was once the capital of the country for some ... read more

So it seems like all the best adventures of my life begin in New Zealand (Antarctica, Nele) so what better thing to do than buy a one way ticket, and meet up with a friend that is planning to sail to Fiji. Armed with scuba gear, surfboards, kite boards, climbing gear, and a boat full of instruments I couldn't possibly understand, this should be quite the adventure. The past few weeks have been spent getting the boat ready for the crossing, which includes a laundry list of tasks, designed to make the voyage more comfortable and safe. Docked at the marina now with hippie neighbors, and numerous other travelers from around the world. Most people are getting ready for the same trip we are headed on. The boats name is Vindante, she is a beautiful mess ... read more

IT'S THAT TIME AGAIN! I think it is official – we can call ourselves “Snowbirds”. The weather starts getting cold and we are outta here, north to warmer climes. We are partaking of some of the usual spots: Paris for a month, and day trips out of that wonderful city, with a foray into England for a wedding (who doesn't?). From there we will be travelling for a month around La Belle France, visiting old and new places. In September, we will be heading into Greece for a month with visits to a couple of islands and places Kevin wants to see. I have put in one request – Santorini – and my wish will be coming true. We will, all during this time, be visiting friends (lots!) and family, and, of course, eating. Which is ... read more

The last few weeks have involved rolling hills, mountains, sunshine, showers and camper vans!!! When we arrived in New Zealand the climate change was quite dramatic. A lovely 30 degree heat in Fiji, to 10 degrees at night and an average 14 degrees during the day in New Zealand. So not as cold as winter in England but still a bit of a shock to the system. During week one in New Zealand our mission was to find a camper van. In order to get our bearings and decide on the best way to travel New Zealand we hired a camper van for a week and travelled to a few areas not far from Auckland. Long bay regional Park was a fab coastal walk we went on made up of forest and beach routes, as we ... read more

Hello Bloggers, We woke up with the Asians blow-drying hair again, it wasn’t too early though. They said they were off to Cape Reinga by rented car, so we let them get in the shower and use the kitchen before we got out of bed. We had booked the car for another day too as we want to see Waipoua forest to see giant Kauri trees. So after cheese on toast for breakfast we set off on the 1h40min drive across to the west coast. The drive was easy, only a couple of roads to navigate, average speed was about 100km, and we arrived. Before we did however, we pulled over a few times to admire the incredible landscape of northern NZ the view point over North Head and Omapere-Opononi were amazing!! (Hopefully the photos will ... read more

Hello Followers, Again we had another lie in- we have been on the go constantly for over a week staying with different people so it’s nice just to have time to ourselves and to sleep. Both Eduardo and Susane had left for work early again; it’s really kind of them to allow us to stay in their house after they have gone to work as most couch surfers insist you leave when they go to work. When we left the house at 9.40am we went to buy breakfast in the town of Onehunga I had a sausage roll and Neil an egg and bacon roll, we then we went to the outlet by their house to buy the Nike trainers that Neil had found last night (and wanted for the last 6 months) and a new ... read more
