Well I knew this day would roll around quickly, but not this quickly!!
Following a wicked week of leaving parties including the official send off at the infamous Empire Tavern the weekend before, I seem to have very little time to complete many tasks which were considered 'essential' not that long ago.
I not surprisingly found myself trying to jam everything into my already overweight suitcase minutes before I had to leave for the airport. Though, mum and dad didn’t seem to be panicking much.
Somehow I managed to arrive at the airport before my traveling partner, Brendan. We checked in our bags and headed upstairs for the usual idle chit chat and coffee with those who were game enough to brave the Auckland Traffic.
Before long, it was time to head through. I managed to keep it together until Brendan dragged me through the departure gates, although others were not so composed. Though thankfully I had someone to keep me in check.
A quick wave to those who waited to see us through the Duty Free window. Before I knew it, we were on the plane. There’s no turning back now!
A twist of
fate had us sitting next to the leading edge of the wing, window seat. Perfect.
As is expected, I was a bit upset on take off, but Brendan got me under control reasonably quickly. The entertainment system on board the Emirates planes is amazing! I was about to learn the intricacies of Backgammon by the master himself.
... Brisbane Airport, here we come!
We arrived into Brisbane airport after approximately 4hours of flying, and a little nap. Brendan assured me that we can leave our stuff onboard while we have a wonder around Brisbane airport for an hour, which was quite convenient.
We jumped off the plane, ditched the chocolate milk bottle that me and Leah hid in Brendan’s bag (hehe!), and found the first place that we could watch the last 40 minutes of the NZ vs Australia tri-nations rugby game. Somehow we managed to find ourselves front row seats at a little ‘sports bar’. I’m sure your all aware that once again, NZ kick butt.
The game finished in perfect time to head back to the boarding gates, where we heard a voice over the loud speaker repeating “Those passengers departed from Auckland that
left baggage on the flight, please collect your belongings on the right hand side of the gang way.”
Guess Brendan was wrong. Unfortunately I lost my bottle of V, a little packed lunch from mum (ain't mum's great!), and my Spanish phase book, and whatever else I haven’t noticed I am missing yet.
We arrived in Singapore airport, some where between being partially asleep and partially awake. I hate to think how many hours we have been awake for now.
We found ourselves in some random wing of the airport, which was noticeably deserted. We saw two rather odd looking foot massage machines, it seemed logical to give it a go.
It was mutually decided that they just might be the weirdest machine we have ever encountered!
I think the only way to begin to describe them is like having a pair of alien hands with particularly knobbly fingers rubbing down your foot and ankle. Not natural at all!
Before we knew it, we were back on the plane. Dubai here we come……
Foot Massage"feels like pair of alien hands with knobbly fingers rubbing down your foot"
