Prav pingvini so nama bili najbolj všeč, saj so zelo radovedne živali.

Blog 8th - 20th April. New Zealand Part II "Fush an chups" As we neared the end of our South Island adventure we made time for one last excursion or two before moving on. Following a wonderful evening with Jo's family friend Jessy in Christchurch we headed north. The van was packed with damp but freshly clean clothes hanging on make shift dental floss lines in the back - I knew that stuff would finally be useful for something! We were driving north in search of whales and wine. Given the whales were away on a mini break abroad we cracked on up the road to Blenheim in the heart of the Marlborough wine region. Hopping on our bicycles for the day we navigated our way around six vineyards and a micro brewery on a 20km ... read more

Coffee and Movenpick icecream in Mission Bay and around the harbour up to the headland was a beautiful drive with paths and photo ops aplenty. A putt putt challenge and some dinosaur taming at Lillputt before returning the car and getting in the taxi the car rental guys had organised to the airport. The boys hit up the BK for a final NZ onion rings feast while Wayne bought the obligatory woolly lamb from the gift shop then it was farewell Auckland and hello Gold Coast (after an hour holding pattern and landing in Brisbane then bussing to Coolangatta). I really enjoyed our first taste of NZ and we will definitely go back and spend a bit more time exploring.... read more

Hello again, not updated this for a while so here is the next part: So after a fairly uneventful flight I met up with Matesha at Auckland (City Of Sails) airport and we went back to her house to meet Kris, Kafele (15) and Kishka (12), where we chilled out to Total Wipeout and some appalling bad NZ soaps. The next day I woke up late and wandered down into Mission Bay (Suburb of Auckland) where I decided that it was far too cold to go swimming so went for a walk up the beach instead, followed by Kafele’s dinner speciality: Beans on Toast, and TV. The following morning I went out for a walk round the bush near the house with Kris and Elsa (the dog crossed with either a big black sheep or a ... read more

MUM AND DAD COME TO NZ I am getting slower and slower with my blogging I know - BUT I don't want to give up completely so what follows is a (believe it or not) condensed version of the fantastic time I had with my lovely parents in the summer..........so long ago....... SOME TIME MID DECEMBER 2009 In my whole time working at Hawkins Construction not once have I travelled further than Wellington on business BUT as luck would have it (and I still cant quite believe the perfect timing) I had to travel to Sydney for bank presentations and they just happened to be scheduled for the exact time my M&D flew in from the Norther hemisphere!!! This was the 2nd time we'd all been in Sydney together but it didnt stop the usual rush ... read more

Another birthday has come around and I am now counting backwards. I have to say that I had a lovely day, the weather was a little dodgy but that did not deter me. We went out to Joel and Chelle's to pick up the girls for a day out at Kelly Tarltons Underwater World. I was given a lovely surprise when we got to Joel's. Chelle and the girls had been up early baking. They had made the most beautiful little birthday cakes for me. Tayla and Jamie had iced the cakes with different coloured icings and hundreds and thousands plus lots of candles!!!!! for my growing age. The girls had also made me the most beautiful cards. I love it when young ones make cards because you get to see the individual thoughts that they ... read more

After our campervanning adventures we returned for a great few days in Auckland. We had fish and chips on the beach, took in great views of the city from the top of Mount Eden, had a lovely lunch at Kermadec in the Viaduct looking out at the yachts and Gary made it over to Waiheke Island when I was at work too.. Best of all though was our last day when my mate Graeme took us out on his boat 'Sea Ox' to go Fishing!!! The 0500 rise was a struggle!!! Nice watching the sunrise as we went out of the Maraetai harbour though. Gary caught the first snapper and it was a big one and then I caught 2 at once...dinner. Yum. Was a great day out of the Huaraki Gulf - so picturesque. ... read more

November 2009 ...............my (not so) wee brother saved up his pennies and in November came to see where I've been hanging out this past year and to sample some of New Zealand's sites, bungy jump....and yup of course the Kiwi beers (yes kiwis do make beer).............he was a "sweet" travel companion and was very kind to minimise his highly honed farting talent whilst we lived together for a week in our campervan "Willie" - thanks Gary!!! Monday 2nd November 2009 AUCKLAND We had been having a very good spell of sunny weather in Auckland in the run up to Gary arriving but predictably (and maybe there is truth in the idea of somone bringing the weather with them!) it started raining when he arrived, but I'm glad he would have been made to feel at home ... read more

It may have been raining on Valentines Day but that didn't stop us Travellers Volunteers from finding things to keep us occupied and so we headed to Kelly Tarlton's aquarium for the afternoon. The aquarium contained many interesting fishy creatures which our group spent many hours attempting to take photos of. The main feature of the aquarium is the tunnel like viewing gallery where the fish and sharks swim over you as you move round on a sort of treadmill type thing. After watching the feeding of the enormous sting rays and a quick visit to see the penguins we made our way back home via food town where we bought food for another group meal of sausage and mash with cakes for pudding! We seem to have gauged the portions better this week and so ... read more

We were expecting a quiet Christmas Eve, but did we get one? No! It started with Phyl, Matthew, and me. Becky decided to join us, then Becky brought along a guy called Bomber, who turned out to be from Castleford. Then we were joined by Mo, a New Zealander. How many do you need for a session? We had a great night, in good company, but it's a good job there were a few of us, as most of the locals seem to have celebrated when work finished, and then gone off to their families. Not that we cared, once Mo had seen us off with a round of Tequila Slammers, we were on Planet Zog. (And there was a very nice Istanbul Kebab shop there!) So Christmas Day, expecting a lie-in, we got an early ... read more
