Thursday, May 13th
Happy birthday maatjie Melinda! We hope you have a beautiful day and that man of yours spoils you rotten. May God bless you this year and may all your dreams come true. We woke to an eerily calm morning. The raging wind of last night was gone. Today was to be a day of regrouping, recovery, reading and learning. We got a wonderfully encouraging email from mom Corne that lifted the gloomy mood we were in, brightening a possibly miserable day.
Talita was still in the grip of the flu, so we didn't want to do much. While she was working on the laptop Ferdi reorganized some of the storage compartments to make everything fit a bit better, then he spent a few hours studying navigation techniques and the proper use of compass and map. The rest of the day was spent reading and snoozing and when the sun started to set we took the round-about route to the showers, enjoying the late afternoon sun and the calm of the day. After the shower we made dinner, then crawled into bed for more reading.
Today's highlights:
1. Uplifting message from home.
2. Learning navigational skills.
Kissing gate
Karen & Colin showed us how these special gates work. Without a kiss... none shall pass! Thought for the day:
The current state of our travels is hardly an adventure for you, our readers, and we apologize for the average-ness of our days. We continue posting, not so much to entertain, but to keep our families and friends included in our lives, even though it has become a bit mundane. Friday, May 14th
We had a list of things to do today so we decided to split up in order to get everything done (being apart for a few hours was a very strange feeling and we both felt a little lost. We've come to rely on each other a lot over the last year and a half).
So, in the name of efficiency, Ferdi dropped Talita off at the laundromat then drove through to the north shore to pick up his prescription and look for a few other things. While he was away Talita made friends with the owner of the laundromat and when the washing was done and in the dryer she went grocery shopping. Ferdi got new hubcaps for the Boesman, batteries for our lights, a couple of pool noodles, and finally his entire prescription of pills.
Two hours
after leaving her behind Ferdi found Talita waiting for him in the laundromat with chocolate on her lips. Turns out she'd gotten chocolate ice-creams, for the laundromat owner and herself, and couldn't resist munching on one while she waited on him in the heat of the afternoon.
Back at Ambury Farm we found a picnic spot and absolutely stuffed ourselves with delicious croissants. When we were ready to burst we drove back to our camping spot where Ferdi installed the new hubcaps. Now Boesman doesn't look like a lost street child anymore. We took Birdsy and the roof racks off and Ferdi put the new pool noodles on the racks. The old ones were already disintegrating from all the UV exposure. We couldn’t believe how small Boesman looked without Birdsy on the roof.
The croissants kept so well that we skipped dinner entirely and spent the evening watching music DVDs.
Today's highlights:
1. Successful day doing mundane things of no real consequence.
2. Great croissants.
3. New hubcaps for the Boesman.
Saturday, May 15th
A sunny morning greeted us, but neither of us felt like embracing the day. Instead we stayed in bed, reading and doing
work on the laptop. Soon the sun disappeared and a thunderstorm came rolling in. A little bit of hail, a lot of water and an hour later the sun peaked out again.
Late in the afternoon we went for a shower, made dinner, ate a fruit salad, did a bit of reading, and worked on the laptop some more.
Today's highlights:
1. Another “exciting” day in the bag.
