They call it Stormy (petrel) Monday Recycled Casserole - Deja Stew Nurse Hurts Worse - the Killer Cure More Whales! I thought all waves were the same….until I saw you wave good-bye… FIRST TATTOO Reporting in from the extraordinary Marquesas. Minute specks of volcanic crests truly in the middle of nowhere. Beautiful isolation and laidback lifestyle. And the French influence, fine when it comes to bread but for almost everything else…hmmmm And all these Photos are from Jim’s camera, Thank You so much! So, back to where it all began, leaving the Galapagos….. I’m just starting to realise just how big this Pacific Ocean is, deserves capitals, makes the old Atlantic a bit of a puddle but you can google on any number of facts about the amazing vastness, the depth, the isolation, the ant-like sense ... read more

Greetings from the Marquesas,What you say? What happened to the Galapagos, Los Pearlas? Well, we left Panama mid February and got to Isla Contadora, made famous for South American leaders conferences and the rich and famous including the late Shah of Iran who had a house here. The weather was sort of grey and we rapidly moved to the south of the group to await a “window” of weather to make the crossing. We’d hooked up with an Aussie cat “Shamara”and on the call of their weather router took off. Our grib files looked fairly good as well , however they lied and we motored for all but about a 20 hour sail arriving in San Cristobal 7 days later. Plenty is known and told about the Galapagos, but visiting by sailboat is not the greatest, ... read more

We had an amazing time in the Marquesas, visiting Ua Pou after Nuku Hiva. We departed in high spirit and after 2.5 days sailing we were about to drop the sails and motor into Manihi part of the Tuamotu Archipelago. We were all really looking foorward to seeing the atolls, diving and snorkelling with a visibility of 50m and more. Anyway we discovered that the boat would not move so after a bit of tweaking, Neil went under boat to look at propeller to discover that it was not there. So we had to bypass all of the islands and head straight for Tahiti, to source parts and make repairs. We got a tow into Papeete harbour from a commercial tug and are due to be here for about 8-10 days while we wait for parts ... read more

We went to French Polynesia for a 2 week cruise to celebrate Ds birthday and our 25th anniversary. 3/18 - South Pacific Day 2 Bora Bora Yesterday we left Tahiti and embarked on the Paul Gauguin. After another good breakfast our bags were picked up by GCT and we were boarded on busses for a tour of the area. We visited the home of the author of Mutiny on The Bounty (name ??? James Norman Hall), got some beautiful views of the Bay and, generally, saw a little of the area. One stop was fun because several generations of a family were having a Tahitian tailgate party with lots of singing....and many smiles. As all the travel guides say....the Tahitians are a warm friendly people. From there we drove to the ship and were on board ... read more

Although we were disappointed to say goodbye to Bora Bora, we knew that we still had two more days to enjoy French Polynesia. We left Bora Bora in the morning of the 24th, and arrived at the Tahiti airport by 10:00 am. Given the time of day we quickly decided to ditch our gear in a hostel and head over to Moorea. Across the street from the airport is the Hostel Fifi (which is very reasonable on its dorm rates...but pretty high for what you get on its more private doubles...like shared bathrooms) and had our first experience with Tahitian public transit. We waited for the so-called "bus" just a few steps from Hostel Fifi. It wasn't any bus you have experienced -- it was a flatbed truck with a built-on compartment for people. They have ... read more

Now many of you may not understand the impact of the falling value of the US Dollar in the world market...but this past week we had a blast of reality, try a continental breakfast -- $50 for two (no omelettes or waffles; seriously, bread, butter, and fruit and that was it)....... French Polynesia is one of the those places that you must visit at least once in your lifetime. Pictures are of no use...this place is much more beautiful than any picture can show you. The water is more blue, the scenery is more amazing, and the time is SOOOO relaxing. As you would guess on this fast moving trip, travel days are a bear. I have a great picture of Jessica asleep on the floor of the Tahiti airport as we arrived at midnight and ... read more
