Ok, I am now in Franch Polynesia, this is again 1000km east of Raratonga in a cluster of islands which includes Bora Bora! I flew into Tahiti from Raratonga landing at 2 am so no chance to do much on my first night. Booked into a hostel at the airport. A regeneration holiday With 39 degrees on the thermometer and two bottles of penicillin in our bag we left the red continent - tonsilitis as a farewell present: thank you very much. For the first time on our 19-months long trip we hopped onto a plane for a longer flight. We have spend 6 days and nights in pacific paradise on the beautiful island of Moorea in French Polynesia. Its got it all white beaches, turquoise lagoons and crazy tropical animals and fruit. It’s a slice of French Chic mixed with Polynesian culture on tropical islands in the middle of the south pacific. We had an Aito room five meters from the lagoon with great swimming and snorkeling. After another 8.5 hours on a plane, we arrived in Tahiti at 5am and was picked up by our friendly hotel owner, Steve. Tahiti is incredibly beautiful and the scenery is breathaking. However, we were not quite prepared for the spectacular prices here and how much french we had forgotten since school! We ate a lot of baguettes and cheese and spent our first 3 days on Tahiti mainly snorkelling and swimming in the lagoon and reading books (yes, Rich does read). Time for a surf Story!!!! I arrived in Tahiti early in the morning. Kendal was to arrive later that night. I had a day to kills so with swell forecast for rather large surf at what is considered to be one of the worlds most dangerous waves, and with my new acquaintances in tow, a couple from South Australia, that was exactly where we headed. It was so good to be able to talk to so many of you before leaving for however long. Well, it's my last night on Moorea, back to Tahiti proper tomorrow for one night before getting my plane out to Auckland. As I'll be crossing the international date line on this flight, I'll be losing an entire day of my life (and trip). Not happy about that, let me tell you. Arriving to some guitars playing in the airport and a group of tribal dancers, Tahiti was looking promising, especially as it is their festival months.....and at 26 degrees at 5 in the morning we were hoping to see a bit of sun. We stayed in papette which was a bit of a dump and a little bit dodgey at night time...but we got the boat to the closest island, Morrea both days which was like a paradise island.
