Background: The French annexed various Polynesian island groups during the 19th century. In September 1995, France stirred up widespread protests by resuming nuclear testing on the Mururoa atoll after a three-year moratorium. The tests were suspended in January 1996.

(These island computers don’t move as fast the NYC ones.) Things I learned: 1) Always pays to have an ISIC (International Student Identity Card) and an American Express Starwood Card. 2) Splitting doesn’t only save money, but it also is a bit healthier. 3) Also, whenever possible, tell the hotel it is your honeymoon. You might get a dessert tray and a bottle of cheap champagne (in our case, Lanson) - which on a backpacker’s budget is like winning the lottery. 4) By signing up for an American Express Starwood Card, one gets 10,000 free points (which is equivalent to ab [View Full Entry]

French Polynesia was beautiful! We arrived in Tahiti in the dark after a very long journey from Paris, and awoke to a stunning view of Moorea - the island where our overwater bungalow awaited. We took the ferry across to Moorea, and drove around the coast to Cooks Bay. Our bungalow was perfect, with a wonderful deck and steps down into the crystal clear lagoon. There was also a claw foot bath, and a fantastic glass panel in the floor, directly over a little bit of reef. Beautiful tropical fish swam around underneath all day and night (it was lit up [View Full Entry]

OK, so I am a little behind in my journal enrtires, but for good reason that I'll get to in a little bit. Right now I am in Auckland, New Zealand, but I need to write about my time in Tahiti because it was, well, interesting to say the least. I actually wrote in my journal so here is the entry as follows. Stay posted for my NZ adventures too! Tahiti is a beautiful place as long as you can.....avoid the condescending French men; don't mind enjoying the little things in life like sunsets and hiking 40 minutes down the [View Full Entry]

French Polynesia is a set of archipelagos in the South Pacific; a dependent country controlled from Paris. France's power over this remote nation provided the basis for extensive nuclear testing over the last few decades of the twentieth century. This has now at last ceased, under extreme international pressure. The most famous islands here are Tahiti and Bora Bora. After an uneventful evening in an uninspiring motel in Pape'ete, French Polynesia's (and Tahiti's) capital, we set about planning the least expensive itinerary possible. Only by increasing our daily budget to one hundred pounds [View Full Entry]

Teahupoo Oceania » French Polynesia » Tahiti
After our honeymoon we headed south east to Teahupoo to catch some of the Billabong Pro. The contest was put off for a few days due to lack of swell. We thought we would seize the opportunity to do some exploring and find the waterfall that our hosts told us about. 15 minutes into the hike we had to turn tail and run for fear of getting eaten alive by the most mosquitoes the both of us had ever seen. So this meant that the rest of the waiting period was spent out on one of the many reef passes [View Full Entry]

Daniel and I are just chilling with Bora bora landmark as a backdrop.
Hey all, This time Rebecca and her new husband Daniel had invited me to tag along to Tahiti in the French Polynesian. From what I've heard, it is in the middle of the Pacific - this is my first time visiting the famous ocean. We started out in Los Angeles, then landed in Tahitian capital Papeete, then ended up for a couple of days in famous Bora bora. Although I've seen the Caribbean turquois water, nothing can be compared with Tahiti's water - it's a paradise on earth. We had a wonderful time, and saw many beautiful scenery. Day 18 - Apologies all for the gap in communications as things went a bit Bermuda triangle on Tahiti, so I'll give you a quick update. Day 8 - was the 2nd day on Bora Bora and that was definitely a tropical island, although it wouyld cost you an arm and leg you stay there.\ Day 9 - Moreea, and it was unlike anything that Jeremy Clarkson said (Ifrna will explain Johnno). Definitely one of our favourite islands. Day 10 - Thaiti and back to dry land. The hotel was fantastaic with a great room with views of the bay and [View Full Entry]

One night on Tahiti The first impression you will get when you land in Tahiti is how French the place looks - all the roads signs, people walking around with french baguettes and creperies. The second thing you will notice is the very French reception you will get from everyone on the islands. I am not talking kisses on the cheeks but rather frosty "why are you bothering me?" responses. Still paradise is paradise and nothing can spoil a stay in French Polynesia. We were lucky to again be meeting up with people from home. We were only spending one [View Full Entry]
