After leaving South America, I spent a week in Tahiti/French Polynesia to relax, unwind, get a tan, and to reflect on my last 11 months of travel. I spent the time on the island of Moorea - a gorgeous tropical island with white sand, turquoise and emerald coloured waters, coconut trees, and sun, with the only downfall being a lot of mosquitoes.
Tahiti is known for being ridiculously expensive but I managed to keep expenses down by staying in a basic campground and cooking my own food. I spent most of my time relaxing on the beach or in the hammock, reading, swimming, snorkelling, opening coconuts to drink, and hanging out with 2 girls from Chile and the US.
On my last day on the island I did a snorkelling tour on the north of the island. The waters were crystal clear, warm, and teeming with loads of tropical fish. The highlight of the tour was snorkelling with black-tipped reef sharks, and swimming with rays.
It was a very relaxing end to my holiday. I am now back in New Zealand, trying to come to grips with my South America adventure being over, people driving on the left
hand side of the road, the Kiwi accent, and the cold.
