Bula!!! Bula to you all. Fijian’s said that all the time, didn’t matter when it was used it seemed! It means hello/cheers or anything really. Fiji was amazing, beautiful scenery, fantastic people and superb hospitality. We had a wicked time in Fiji, met some awesome people and had a great laugh. I was quite sad to be leaving the US after spending so long there but loads of people we met in Hollywood raved about Fiji so we were excited to be going there. The fact that it was gonna be hot was appealing! America was hot but too humid in some places. Anyway, flight was smooth-first time on Air Pacific and they are quality, all the air crew wear Hawaiian shirts! Obviously not the captain as that would be a bit too casual….! 4:30 pm- June 30, Smugglers Cove, Nadi, Fiji- temperature 25 degrees celsius. Sitting at the beach bar watching chubby, overtanned British bikini girls laying beside the pool reading a fine selection of Dan Brown's lesser known novels... A clear sign they've been in Fiji too long and have run out of good books to read. I am walking. following footprints etched into cement. To my left; scattered sugar cane plantations and water buffaloes grazing in soggy pastures. To my right; lush green mountains. In front of me; three beautiful women walking against the backdrop of palm trees, a cloudless sky and a calm blue ocean. This is Fiji- Some down time, a breather, and one or two girly drinks with umbrellas. Take me home. ... read more

Wednesday 5th July Had breakfast and said goodbye the friends I had made on the Wana Taki. Also picked up my $98 bar tab :-( I got on the Yasawa Flyer (catamaran) and stood at the front, right on the bow as we raced across to the next island. We then got a really fast speedboat transfer to the Sanawai resort, stopping at the nearby village on the way for the guys to pick up their lunch... He came back with a single can of corned beef - the lunch for the pair of them... The resort is pretty small (only seven people) and relatively new. Met up with two guys I had chatted to on previous islands - Adam and Wayne. Turns out they are from Bicester! Just down the road from home and had ... read more

Monday 3rd July I got a transfer boat to the Wana Taki, which is a big old ferry converted to sleep about 30 travellers. It has a bar, three meals a day (plus morning and afternoon tea!! LOL), kayaks, snorkeling gear, DVD player, air-con sleeping deck, HOT showers and you can jump in the sea from the top deck!! :-) I met Jim and Abby - a really nice couple. We got a welcome drink and then got to eat lunch - and it was fantastic! Especially after the food at Kuata!! We went out in a little boat to snorkel with manta rays. As we approached the channel where they feed we saw a fin come out of the water - looked like a big shark, but it was actually a wing tip of a ... read more

Saturday 1st July We were awoke by the breakfast 'drums' (they play wooden drums on all the islands to announce the start of some activity or meal). I had another nice breakfast and packed my bag - I was moving on today. I then realised my camera charger didn't work anymore. I think it was overloaded as I left it plugged in over night and there was probably a 'power spike' when the generator was started again in the morning. Not good as I would not be anywhere near somewhere that might sell a replacement for about 3 weeks! I decided no more beer in Fiji - it was a waste of time - you just can't get drunk on it. Same for the rum n coke and whisky n coke - all come in poxy ... read more

Thursday 29th June: I was up at 6.30am, trying not to wake the other eight people in my dorm. I went and showered I realised I was about to embark on the most remote part of my trip so far and had just run out of shower gel and deodorant! Arse! So, no internet access for three weeks - means no contact with distant friends and no shower gel or deodorant - means no making of 'close' friends either!! LOL To top it all of, it is raining heavily. Not having a good start to Fiji... I went down for breakfast, I saw on the menu 'Full Fijian Breakfast', which was like a Full English. "Mmmmmm, yes please" I thought. I went to reception to get my breakfast ticket (you get a free 'Awesome breakfast' with ... read more

Monday 26th June 2006: I had to get up early to pack and get myself to the airport for my flight back to Honolulu. I rushed around saying goodbyes, grabbing email addresses and giving away my food (ate out too much!). Bumped into Holly and Anne again when I got to the airport, as they rushed to get their flight. The flight was fine & I got the shuttle bus back to the Polynesian Hostel Waikiki - my snowboard bag was still there :-) I backed up my photos to CD and then it was time to meet a local (Holly) for a few drinks in Waikiki. I was to meet her at the pier and stood watching the crazy boogie boarders riding waves, just feet from a large concrete breaker. I looked up and down ... read more

We were the only two people going from the small South sea Island to Bounty Island, however we were still greeted by a man singing and playing his small guitar. We had booked in for two nights of luxury in a beach front bure. The hut was amazing, even had its own toilet and shower room at the back. This island is so beautiful and fabulous, it is not surprising that this was the first choice for the TV show Celebrity Love Island. The first night was good, the food on Bounty Island was the best we had tasted the whole time we were in Fiji. They also had dancing and a welcome and goodbye song for all the arrivals and people departing every night. We met up with a couple we had met on Naviti ... read more
