It's been over a week since I last posted a blog but I can safely say that it has been the most uneventful week of my life. Including university! Spent 5 days on the island of Mana - staying at a family run (meaning very basic) place on a beautiful little island - doing absolutely nothing! Went to the beach for a sunbathe, a swim and a snorkel, checked out the views out to other little islands and that's it! Told you it was uneventful! Oh - and we took part in a Kava Ceremony - a welcoming ceremony for guests to the village where you have to drink Kava, sounds easy enough! Kava is the root of the plant which is grounded into a powder and then mixed with water. The end result is a ... read more

I spent the next two nights on South Sea Island. Snorkelling, swimming and sunbathing. I also kayaked across to Bounty Island, for a wander around where celibrity love island was filmed, before being asked to leave by one of the staff there!... read more

Sunday 16 July - Yasawa Islands Fiji Nadi - Finally got to Fiji after a 6 ½ hour flight to Honolulu - Hawaii, 1 hour stop over, then 6 hours to Nadi which made it 5.15am over there & the day didn’t start well when our FREE hostel transfer bus didn’t show up. After waiting at the airport for 30 mins I made one of the local women phone to say where the hell are they. They said no probs will be there in 10 mins - another 30 mins passed and no show so I phoned them AGAIN and the same story - 10 mins - another 30 mins passed and still no show. So being there for nearly 2 hours we finally decided to take a cab. As soon as we arrived the woman ... read more

Fiji…..part two…. Right, from South Sea Island we caught the Yasawa Flyer to Bounty Island. We could have technically swam there it was so close, actually that wouldn’t have been an amazingly good idea as when I’ve been snorkelling with Fran out in the reefs, I panic as soon as I see anything that remotely looks like it could be the outline of a shark….even a harmless reef shark will make the water turn brown. How I’m gonna survive in the water off the coast of Australia I do not know. Anyway, the people from Bounty picked us up and took us to the shore of yet another beautiful island. We were the only people to arrive at the island at midday and we had a welcome song just for us! In front of 50 or ... read more

My flight to Fiji was originally scheduled to leave at 10 pm. After a very long delay I eventually left Auckland International airport at 1.30 am! I arrived in Nadi @ 4.00 am. I was then taken to my pre-booked accommodation, Nadi Bay resort hotel where I was able to have a 4 hr sleep before taking the coach transfer to port Denarau where I boarded the Yasawa flyer to take me to my first Island, Beachcomber. The highlight of my stay at Beachcomber was snorkelling for the first time. This began with a 30 min video followed by some training the pool on how to use the equipment and some safety drills. We then took a boat out to some coral reef just off the Island for some 'open water' diving. It was very exciting ... read more

Intro Sorry I haven’t written in awhile. Paul and I have been off touring Fijian villages. Pretty basic. A few have electricity via a generator. All villages have some kind of radio phone for the village. But, I only saw internet at one resort, maybe to. Just not lots of communication options. But that happens. The boat isn’t lost from all communication though. We have SSB radio, a Satellite phone and EPIRB. Luckily we’ve only used the first 2. Ok, but this is what has happened, mostly: Stories According to the computer today is Wednesday, June 28. I think that is right. I don’t really know. Some interesting or not so interesting things about time on the boat and Fiji time. I’m real good at knowing if the current day is an even or odd date, ... read more

Sunday 9th July 2006 At 5am I awoke and watched a glorious sunrise over the sea, through the window of our Bure, while still laid in bed. After breakfast we had to board the transfer boat to take us to the Yasawa Flyer catamaran, which took us on to our next destination - Manta Ray resort. The transfer boat took us round to the other side of the island, to the Blue Lagoon, where we waited with a few other resort boats for the Flyer. While we were there I could see two kite surfers just off the beach of an island South West of us. I had wanted to kite surf in Fiji but not found anyone who rented out there - so assumed it was private individuals. When we arrived at Manta Ray resort ... read more

Friday 7th July We landed at the resort and I was given bed number 202 - which as it turns out was exactly the same number given to a German girl. Didn't think she was up for sharing a bed - hadn't even bought her a drink!!. So went back and asked for a new bed number. Seems the dorms were full so I got a Bure (small little house - usually for couples/families), but had to share with two other German girls - with only two beds! Seems I was destined to sleep with a German girl! ;-) They had the double I had the single and all was good. This resort was a lot bigger than the previous ones. On the other shore was the famous Blue Lagoon used in the film of the ... read more
