I’m writing this while sat here outside our Bure by the sea, with salty skin and a peeling nose. I’m on my 3rd book and still have 2 weeks left! This place is paradise. By the time I eventually get around to posting this, I’ll probably have popped across the Pacific to the States for the final few weeks of mine and mum’s journey. But for now, I’m here, and it’s bliss. It’s taken until now to submit to such relaxation - For me it’s easier said than done. Apart from the obvious ‘bumming about on a beach’ part of Fiji, which you can do on one of the many, many beaches, we decided to follow a more responsible route, and opted for a ‘resort’ owned by the local Chief and one which supports the islands’ ... read more

Fiji Tuesday 9 February - Friday 19 February 2010 BULA everyone!!!! From Australia we flew out to Fiji and I was extremely excited about it! :) After spending days roasting alive in a campervan feeling like I was living like a gypsy, I was looking forward to relaxing on gorgeous beaches with normal facilities (such as a shower) available at hand. We landed in Nadi and there's not much happening there. However we managed to sneak into another hotel to watch a tradional figian fire and dance show which was really impressive and extremely dangerous in my opinion. Dangerous because the guys performing threw fire around and up in the air and actually made mistakes. I thought I was going to get hit at one point - but it was good fun. Extremely fit male dancers ... read more

Hey everybody! Once again we have skipped continents and we are now in Thailand!!! After leaving Byron Bay in OZ after a very short time we travelled further up the coast to Brisbane. Luckily we met a couple of aussies on our travels and we spent our first night with Jo and Aaron just outside Brisse. Due to our poor planning we realised we had just 4 nights to go to the gold coast, surfers paradise, fraser island and the whitsundays, so we got some awesome travel advice from Jo and other ppl and decided we most wanted to go to Fraser Island, the largest island in the world made up of only sand (obviously with trees and other stuff on top). Most ppl rent out 4w4s and spend 3 days driving all over the island ... read more

So we (we meaning the 13 or so of us that are all doing the same ultimate lei pass; lots of norweigens, germans, and some americans aussi) arrived at Korovou eco resort on Naviti Island, Korovou meaning new village. We were greeted agin by song and cance and a welcome flower in the hair and some juice :-) Korovou was a real nice resort, had a pool! Couold quite easily ahve stayed there for longer. More Bula dancing in the evening and being retaught the highly speedy and addictive card game; im clearly very out of practise as rosie and Zoe completely whooped me repeatedly! grrrr need to work on that one! The next day we were off snorkelling with manta rays! ahhhhhh hw cool was that! They are such beautiful majestic creatures, jus going about ... read more

It seems a long time ago now, but back in Wellington I was looked after brilliantly (again) by Janina and her housemates. There wasn't much sightseeing this time, I mainly made plans and bookings for the US, which took up quite alot of my time. There was a party though at the house, for Sharon's birthday, and I took in another play at the tiny Bats Theatre - a modern adaptation of Hedda Gabler, not bad. One of the highlights of Wellington for me was the fact it is teeming with culture of all sorts. If I was to live in New Zealand (don't panic yet, parents!), I think Wellington would be the place for me. Although the climate is not the best there; it did live up to its windy reputation. The next stop was ... read more

Fiji - The Yasawas We left Honolulu at 12:00 on the 21st October and after six and a half hours flying we arrived at Nadi airport in Fiji where it was 16:30 on the 22nd October. We had crossed the equator and the dateline and completely missed out on Tuesday night! We took a taxi to the hostel we had booked for the first two nights and after sampling a couple of the local beers, headed to bed for an early night. In the morning, we took the local bus into town. The bus had what they refer to as 'Fiji air conditioning' i.e. no windows. In Nadi, we did some shopping and visited the local market which had lots of fruit and vegetables we had never seen before as well as mountains of a root ... read more

Hi all, I'm on a very slow and expensive connection in the Fiji Yasawa islands so this can only be a quick message. Fiji has been great so far - although its been a bit difficult going from doing things constantly for 5 1/2 months to doing very little! The resorts i've been to out here are Korovu and Waya Lai Lai and i'm heading to Bounty island tomorrow (famous for Celebrity love island), before heading down to Pacific harbour on the main island for a shark dive! I pretty much got offered a job out here from a guy back in Nadi. He wants me to come out here and teach CAD to students in the international college at Suva. It's unlikely I'll take the offer but will email him when back in England! One ... read more

Bula Bula!! Fiji mainly involved lying on the beach, playing drinking games which always ended in ultimate carnage (the game not us!), befriending dogs (Meme) and being hungry (pretty stingy with their portions!). We flew into Nadi, and caught the first Awesome Adventures boat to Beachcomber-an island of drunken fun...and sleeping in a 150 bed dorm...mental oriental!! Coconut bay was next where we learn´t the Bula dance, weaved bracelets and tried the local cava. It´s supposed to be a speciality drink of Fiji, but it tasted and looked like mud, flower water........not massively impressed....just made us feel a bit sleepy! Last port of call was Sunset Waya where the weather was lush and gave us ample opportunity to hit the beach to play volleyball with the locals and play in the sea! One day we went ... read more

This is a Fiji time. First of all I wanted to thank you everyone who follows my trip and send me some comments. We went for a week to Fiji. I didn't plan anything there so I din't know what to expect. First day in the morning we overslept for breakfast. It was about noon when we went on the beach hoping to find someting to eat. We met this guy. No we are no cannibals neither he was, but he was the guy who sells coconuts. So he fed us with coconuts (few first pictures). We didn't wanted to stay to long on the main land so we have booked trips to two islands Yasava and Kuata. It was the best decision. Wow! We have met lovely locals, fantastic other travellers and we had a ... read more

We wake for breakfast and even though it is still raining we are chuffed to find that the Manta Ray snorkelling trip is still on. We get our gear and head out on the little boat for the reef, Although we don't see any sharks, the reef here is fantastic and the best I've seen since the West Coast of Oz. I have even learned how to dive with my snorkel - check me out! We get back to the camp and after talking to some new arrivals are told that the reason there is so much rain is apparently it's rainy season in Fiji now - some say it's all of January and another said it lasts for about 6 months - no one told us this! Also, they told us that they had been ... read more
