My bedroom
The roaster is right outside! Well, I've made a break through. A girl in the afternoon school session that has spent the last two days doing nothing by hissing at me said hello to me today with a big cheerie smile. Ah, nothing like bribing kids with stickers!
No more spiders to report. Thank god. I'm beginning to settle in with the roaster. Pradeep is joking that he's going to make a good dinner out of him. I really hope I'm not at home if this goes down!
Last night at the house was fun. I was spending time with Preneel and their neighbors two children that are 16 and 18. They were asking me if I spoke other languages. I said, not really but that I learn basic words in the language for all of the places I've traveled. So, we started going through them. This was really fun because they had never heard hello in French or German. I of course am butchering the pronunciations, but either way, it was fun. Preneel likes to go to the night clubs and wants to meet and marry a European woman. I taught him how to say Cheers in German and how to tell if
The neighbors
This is the house that owns the roaster...I have yet to get a photo of him...he's a fast mover! a girl is from Europe. Come on...stick with me. It was funny! He's now going to talk to blond hair/blue eyed girls in German. Maybe I'll go with him one night to see if this actually happens LOL!
School is becoming more and more fun. I'm getting more involved with the kids and I'm learning their names. I have a few kids that like to sit next to me too. Pretty adorable! And they all call me teacher Courtney. Talk about hilarious! I think next week I might teach them the 5 Little Ducks song. Thank you for all the times I had to sing that song to my sister with Raffi in the background. I never thought it would come in handy! The teachers I work with are fun too. I might get to spend some time with them and their families. Its all very intersting and a great experience thus far. I met more parents today and they seem to be pretty interested in me too. I think since I'm in a non-tourist area of the country I'm a bit of an interest to people. I mean, from what I understand, there is one other girl in
town that working with the Peace Corps and that's in for light skinned looking people. So, this is a really cool experience thus far. Since I'm at a Methodist school, I can't wear pants to work. So, on top of the conservative Fijian dress that I need to follow, I now have more restriction at work. I'm down to only the 3 skirts to wear. This Friday, they are doing a special service in the church and all of the women are supposed to wear white. One of the other teachers brought me a white skirt that doesn't fit her. She said that I can keep it. How nice! I'm really excited. I'm also hoping to have a traditional Fijian Sulu, skirt, made. Then I will have something else to wear!
The bus...so yesterday it rained. They have these canvas flaps that unroll and for the most part keep you dry. So it was pretty nice. The other hilarious thing...no doors on the bus. Just an entry way and, people get on the bus as its moving. So if you flag it down in the middle of the street...it doesn't stop. Its a slow roll and you have to
The walking bridge to work
Seriously, cars used to drive on this! grab on and get in. Oh boy...I'll stick with the actual bus stations for now :-)
Ok, and finally some photos! Enjoy. More in the next couple of days!
