Just to give you an update. After a delay of six hours at Sydney airport we arrived in Fiji at 3.00am. When we awoke at our resort later that morning we realised we had landed in paradise. Fiji is just so beautiful and the weather perfect if you like it hot , we think it must be around 100oF today. We are staying in a super resort called the Hideaway on the Coral Coast and the whole set up is first class, it is quiet here at the moment so we have a big choice of sunbeds and it all feels rather exclusive. We are sleeping in a Bure - "a Fijian house" a high ceilinged dwelling meant to keep you cool in summer and warm in winter. We have been lazing by the pool mostly ... read more

The flight from LA was around 10 hours but as we crossed the international date line we lost a day so 19th September 2007 didn't happen for us! We arrived at 5.30am and had to hang around the airport until the local bus started running at 7. The local bus was an interesting experience and took around 3 hours to get to our hostel on the Coral Coast. We were staying in the Beach House (recommended by Matt) which was the setting for Celebrity Love Island (when Calum Best and Bianca Gascoigne won it) - I know I was the only person in the UK to actually watch this so it won't mean anything to most of you! It was a lovely resort, in the middle of nowhere, set right on the beach - picture postcard! ... read more

Mango bay resort is situated on the south west of mainland Fiji, on what is called the coral coast and when we arrived at mango bay we were not disappointed. Mango bay looked like heaven, cute wooden and straw huts set on lush green landscape. Mango bay is equipped with a large resturant over looking the crystal clear sea, a white sandy bay, free snoorkling and kayaking gear, pool, sun loungers, mini ice cream parlour, volley ball court (obviously not for our use but may be useful for perving on cute guys!), palm trees littered everywhere and a wide selection on the menu! Also, I got to introduce Anna and Bean to Toni and Amy (the girls I met at travellers beach resort, see Pea's grand adventure for mre details). We arrived at mid day, so were ... read more

Another day another country and onto Fiji. To be honest we only came to Fiji as we had one spare flight on our package and it broke up the long journey between LA and NZ however I was really taken with this country and Babs and I h ad a pretty mad cap 6 days. We arrived late on the first night and so just stayed close to the airport in Nadi, however I was immediately taken back by the hospitality of the locals who are so friendly and can't do enough for you. They are all very proud of their country and national identity as a very laid back friendly nation always greeting you with the national saying 'bula!' which kinda means hello/good/cool but is difficult to describe unless you have been to Fiji. ... read more

After being squashed on a very full bus for an hour and a half, we arrived in Sigatoka. This was a smallish very dusty town with little going for it, bar a couple of attractions nearby that we wanted to see before heading to Suva. On our first day in Sigatoka we visited the very unimpressive Tavuni Hill Fort. There was little evidence that this place actually ever existed apart from a few stones marking specific places. From the info we had, we expected to be intimidated by the "head cutting stone", which was actually just a small rock that could have been placed there by anyone! It wasn't all bad though, as the view from the top of the hill was very pleasent. We walked back from the Hill Fort to Sigatoka town, this 5km ... read more

Bula from Fiji!! After being greeted at the airport by a Fijian band playing traditional music we stayed in Nadi for the first night. The next day we got a bus along the coast to 'The Beachouse', where we stayed seven nights. Its the place where ITV filmed Celebrity Love Island - it was great. The weather was not great for most of our time there but the last two days were nice and sunny. most of the other people there were English because everyone wanted to live the Celebrity Luuuuurve Island dream. LOL. There was loads to do there though and we had a brilliant time. They did coconut jewellery making each day (which Olly loved!) and coconut weaving which was amazing to watch but very hard to do! There was also kayaking, massage, ... read more

Well Hello and for those of you who thought we had disappeared, 'tis not true, just couldn't find any cheap/free or any internet access etc yet again!! Anyway, we had a great 2 weeks in Fiji and are now in the great US of A, touring around a bit of California. We arrived in Fiji during a thunderstorm - not good for the nerves, especially as the wing of the plane got hit by lightening, but the pilot did a sterling job and managed to get us on the ground safely. I do hate it though when the reassuring tones of the captains voice at the beginning of the flight state that the weather is clear "all the way to sunny Fiji" and then the heavens open. So, we hit the rainy season with a vengence ... read more

This is the longest day of our holidays…due maily to traveling over the dateline. The first 20 hours of today were fine…wake up, eat, pool, eat, pool, eat, beach, eat, walk, drink. We met up with a couple from the UK doing a Pacific jaunt of several months - I spotted his HDD HD cam and had to check it out. I found out earlier today that my camcorder doesn’t record the AV input from the helmet cam I bought…it will only pass it through to the firewire out…not very useful, so looks like I’m up for a new camcorder if it is to work for me. Kerching! 2 out of 3 IS BAD! Then 8pm hit…the private car transfer due to pick us up didn’t show up. Phone calls were made, lots of serious ... read more
