Talking TurtleJim gets up close & personal with Tommy Turtle at Maui Ocean Center
We've lost a day since we last updated the blog - and, no, there was no drink involved, honest!
We went snorkelling on our last day in Maui and also saw a pod of about 250 Spinner Dolphins - just amazing!
We left Hawaii at 8.10am on Sunday September 20 for a five and a half hour flight to Fiji which crossed both the Equator and the International Date line. Hence, when we arrived in Fiji it was already Monday afternoon.
We are staying at The Outrigger on The Lagoon, halfway between Nadi and Suva on Viti Levu - the main Fijiian island. The Fijiian people are so lovely and friendly and just can't be helpful enough. Their smiles transform their faces and they smile most of the time and greet you with a big "Bula" every time they see you. Bula means more than hello, we're told - it actually means I am delighted to see you and I wish you prosperity and a long life.
The hotel and food etc is lovely but it is basically a big resort and it does feel a bit like being cooped up so we hired a car for
a few days and got out and about to see the island. The poverty here is just grinding. Average wage (for those who're lucky enough to be in work) is $80 Fijian - or about 27 pounds.
We can't phone from here - we have bought a phone card but it doesn't work in the hotel!! Go figure!
We are currently waiting for our helicopter ride to Castaway Island where we stay for three nights then back to Nadi for one night and on to New Zealand. Will update when we arrive in NZ
Hope everyone is fine

Celebrating sunsetThe conch blower heralds sunset each night in Fiji - just before the torch lighting ceremony (and Happy Hour at the bar!!)
SerenadeThe most cheerful bunch of serenaders you could ever meet. Their voices are so sweet and melodious

Hi!! looks like you're having an amazing time. So pleased for you. You'll love NZ! Please try to get to milford sound. It's the most amazing place on earth, and i can say that after seeing the Grand Canyon. It's magical.
(Mrs) Wendy
Cheers Wendy, Milford Sound is on the agenda for us - will be sure to let you know what we think. If it's better than the Grand Canyon it must be really something.
Glad to hear (from Ailsa) that the wedding went well. Congrats to you and Robert (and to wee sweetie pie too!!)
Take care

Hi Lynne, Jim, so glad you're having a wonderful time. It all just looks so amazing. I'll never want to go back to Saltcoats again (the only sharks there are usually holding a pack of cards and never mess with the town's Bears who are certainly grisly). Enjoy every minute of it. Take care. TC
Cheers Tony - and thanks for the 'heads up' too. I agree that the Ayrshire folk are no match for Lanarkshire people.
Hope life is well with you - and not TOOOOO busy?!

Hello again. We are all very envious, what a great time you are having. We also have to contend with travel news from George and Heidi. They are on the final leg of their trip. Just been to Inverness, Aberdeen and a few other places. This is their last week in Motherwell with Nett then back to London for a few days, Hong Kong for a short stop, then home on the 8th October. The four of you will be able to swap stories when we all catch up soon. We won't get a word in. Keep having fun and we look forward to seeing you soon. Love Jan & Alan xx

Everything's great over here. Louise is doing well. She's just got us tickets for a concert - The Swell Season and we're all very excited.
The Two Hander and Zoo Story's on this weekend and are both looking fantastic so far.
Hope the fun just keeps getting better.
Big hugs, Fee xx
Thanks Fiona and thanks again for keeping an eye on the young 'un! Give a big whooping cheer at Zoo Story/Two Hander for us please
