Donnybrook Mamoth Playground
Biggest free public playground for children I have seen, especially for a small town. DONNYBROOK - This is a small country town about 20-30 miles from Bunbury. Its claim to fame is that it is the home of the Granny Smith’s Apple! There are many orchards on the outskirts of town growing a variety of fruits.Didn’t see any Granny Smiths though.
Historically there was a lot of gold mining in the area, sandstone quarrying and lumber operations – see photos. As previously found elsewhere in Australia, it was clean and litter free. Nice. Whilst a railway line passes through the town, it would seem only to be for freight, which is a shame. The old railway station is now a tourist information centre - with really friendly staff. Thanks, staff.
The one thing that will stick in my mind about the town, is that it had the biggest public children’s playground that I have ever ever seen, and with sun shading – presumably to get children to nag their parents to take them to Donnybrook and as a spin off, to spend money in the town. (North Tyneside Council, please note this good idea to bring families to a town).
