Ok so the blog below is quite long so for those who cannot be bothered to read it the outline is that I started in Darwin and took a month to drive down the West coast of Australia to Perth camping along the way.
Arriving in Darwin at three in the morning I caught a bus into town and treated myself to a proper fry up, not quite a full English but good enough. I then went in search of some accommodation and kept being told that everywhere was full as I had happened to land on the weekend of the Darwin Cup. After eventually finding somewhere to stay I was promptly kicked out the next morning and was again homeless.
I had decided to buy a car to travel down the West coast and so buying the car was now number one priority as I needed somewhere to sleep. After acquiring a motor and finding a passenger that wanted a lift down to Perth to share petrol money I was set. We visited the jumping crocs in a local river in Darwin then moved down to Lichfield national park to see the waterfalls and gorges and have a
swim (luckily there were only freshwater crocs in this particular pool). We then drove down to Katherine via Edith falls and then visited Katherine Gorge our nights sleep was interrupted by wallabies rusling around the tent. The next morning we went on a cruise up the gorge as all the kayaks were booked out for the next couple of days.
We move on towards Broome passing through Halls Creek just North of Wolfe Creek (no I haven’t seen the film yet). On reaching Broome I purchased a fishing rod and then got in to some fishing from the beach and done the normal touristy things like visiting the croc farm and Cable beach. I picked up another passenger in Broome so we could save some more cash. The three of us then headed south to Eighty Mile beach and then onwards to Karijini national park via Port Headland. The national park was really good and we passed the time gorge walking and wading through ice cold water. The nights were cold but we were spoilt with amasing stars and a clear view of the milky way and the use of a telescope we had a good view of the
moon and Jupiter where we could even see its moons. Moving on form Karijini we headed for Exmouth via Tom Price a small mining town. Once in Exmouth I did some more diving for free this time which was nice and after the dive was treated to a Humpback Whale and her calf swimming right passed the dive boat. The next couple of days we spent lazing around fishing and drinking. Its amasing how many ciders you consume fishing its very thirsty work. We then headed into Ningaloo national park where we bush camped and spent a lot of time snorkeling where I saw a nice black tipped reef shark and some massive fish. The next day we visited a blow hole which was pretty impressive see pic. We then headed south again towards the Principality of Hutt River an Independent Sovereign State having seceded from Australia on the Twenty First Day of April 1970 and is of comparable size to Hong Kong (not the New Territories).(http://www.principality-hutt-river.com/). I got my visa and passport stamped and then moved back on the road south to Perth taking in the Pinicales and then arrived in Perth. Now in Perth I am searching for
a job as Australia is proving to be a bit expensive so if you don’t see any blogs soon its because I haven’t moved on.
