Monday 14th December Very little to write about, the heat is not as bad, about 32 degrees today, not much wind, in all a very pleasant day. John was bitten by a red back and felt some pain and discomfort, I took him to the medical centre and he is now on the road to recovery. Even the dog feels the heat after a long walk!!! As for me, it is goodbye for now ... read more

Thursday December 10th So much for the rest day that I planned to have on day 3. We decided to leave Cervantes and go to Jurien Bay. The caravan park at Cervantes was terrible with the road works inside the park and the dust was incredible, so much for all my effort with cleaning the van inside out before we left, I was left with having to wash everything again.Fortunately, we did get a refund as we had paid in advance for 10 days, we should have been told when we booked a month ago that there were to be heavy machinery and the like happening in the park. So, once more I packed everything , including Rosie (grrrrrrrrrrrr she is so heavy!!!! and my right arm is feeling it!) We arrived on Wednesday the 9th ... read more

Day one We arrived at Moora on the first day without too much fuss, no wind and the roads were good, we booked at Moora Caravan Park, a very pleasant park with very good facilities, we liked Moora, it is a very pleasant little town, people are friendly, and courteous. No photos taken today, as there is really nothing to take. Day two We left for Cervantes via Badgingarra, and Tom Tom tried to sent me on a wild adventure, this is really to be watched, because before I knew it, I was on a gravel road, indicating "Cervantes" however it was very corragated. Doing a U turn with the caravan really tried my reversing skills it was not that easy because the Rd was a little on the narrow side. I assume that this probably ... read more

Today is the 4th December 09 and after a very busy year, we are taking 10 days away. It could be the last trip for us with the caravan, as John is not as well as what one would expect for travelling in a van. This time we are taking "Rosie" (gopher) it may make life a little easier, that way, I will be able to walk and enjoy the sights and so will John. it is a good compromise, it is a portable Gopher and the bottom half will fit in the boot of the car very easily, the rest will go into the caravan. For the last 2 days, I have been busy preparing the van, and departure is Sunday morning (early):). We plan to stop in Moora for the night on the first ... read more

Hello you lot, Sorry about the just-over-a-week long delay on blog updates, but I've been too busy doing other stuff :) So right now I am in Fremantle again having a bit of a chill and internet catch up after a day of... but I'm getting ahead of myself aren't I? OK casting my memory back to where I left off, the next chapter of my Aussie adventure kicks off on a typically sunny morning in Perth, hanging around on the street looking like a backpacker cliche (maybe not so much looking like one, but actually being one) and waiting for the tour bus to arrive. Eventually it does so, and after much faffing around during which time I possibly knocked ten years off my life with a McDonalds breakfast we departed for distant Exmouth (over ... read more

We left Perth yesterday in wind and rain and were pleased to finally stop for the night at the little beachside town of Cervantes to bed down for the night. After a rainy, windy night, we were thrilled that this morning the sun was shining. We left the caravan park and drove the 17 klms to the strange moonscape that is the Pinnacle Desert. We drove through the national park and once we’d parked the motor home, we walked amongst the Pinnacles. These are are statuesque wind-carved limestone pillars up to three metres high, rising out of the sand like ancient ruins. They were formed in the sand 25,000 to 30,000 years ago after the sea receded and deposits of sea shells remained behind. Over time the elements removed the surrounding sand, leaving the pillars isolated ... read more

After our trip down south we spent a day in Kingsley sorting a few things out and having a rest from the driving. Our first port of call was to head to the Chinese consulate where we could collect our passports complete with stamped visa ready for March. We are now pretty much prepared on the paperwork side of our trip having received our Vietnamese visa in the post just before the new year. We then headed down to Hillary's where the twins had been at their swimming lessons. We played around looking at the fish and for shells before heading over to the jetty where Stephanie overcame her slight fear and jumped into the sea! We spent the afternoon sorting through some of our accumulated belongings and making up a box that we could send ... read more

We managed to get out of bed early this morning (although I do admit Matt had to drag me out for a change) as we had a long day ahead. After filling up our tank full of diesel we began our longest journey yet. Matt’s plan was to get as far as we could before nightfall. We set off along the ocean road towards Port Gregory, where we passed alongside a stunning pink lake. Yes, you read that right! The lake was completely pink and apparently beta carotene is produced from it. Even the clouds above it were pink from the reflection. It was bizarre yet beautiful at the same time. After another endless seeming drive we arrived at the small coastal town of Jurien Bay. We knew there wasn’t a lot there but it looked ... read more

There's a short walk along the coast that we did this morning. We walked to a lookout where there were some great views of the surrounding bays and of the town. We walked a little way further along the beach looking for the second lookout but we didn't find it. We didn't have a lot of time beacuse we had the tour this afternoon. The bays that we came across were even nicer than the part of the beach we saw yesterday and there weren't many other people about. At 3:30pm today we were picked up and taken on a tour of the Pinnacles. Our driver was called Mike and it was just the two of us on a minibus but he still wore his headset to talk to us! It was great, he drove us ... read more
