It seems ages since I last wrote a blog so I have provide a brief summary: After working in Perth my contract is nearly up, and a lot has happened since I arrived here; mainly too much drinking but also a couple of road trips and a trip back to the UK for Russ and Sarah’s wedding (congrats guys, I know you are going to be very happy) and then a couple of days in Dubai and then back to Oz to carry on my travels.
Now for those of you who are still reading; after arriving in Perth and meeting up with Steve, we got straight into drinking with a 141 beer challenge had a road trip to Kalgoorlie to have a look a the mining town, visited Langtrees for the brothel tour and a night out on the beers.
Returning to Perth I managed to get a job at a local pub and at an environmental consultancy where I have been working for nearly six months now. It was a bit of a change from what I was doing in the UK, with some real hands on environmental work, specifically involving a gas pipeline 1596 km long
(further than Land’s End to John O' Groats to put it in perspective), and some other bits and bobs. This involved a fair bit of 4WD (four wheel driving) and me seeing a lot more of the remote areas of Western Australia. The guys at the office were really friendly and helpful and I was lucky enough to be invited to a 4WD trip to Pemberton on the south coast as well as the Xmas party which was held on a boat on the Swan River in Perth.
Living in Perth is a really chilled out and has allowed me to do a bit of diving, surfing and a lot of fishing. I am a bit of a fishing addict now to be fair. I won’t bore you with all the details here but it has been a blast. I also managed to meet up with some old family friends (hi Pat) and even some family who I had never met before thanks for the BBQ’s Keith!!
After receiving an invite to Russ and Sarah’s wedding I booked a flight home and spent most of February in the UK drinking Guinness and catching up with mates. Oh ya…
and going to Russ’s wedding - only kidding fella. I then flew back to Oz via Dubai.
Dubai was amazing the first evening was spent relaxing and the next morning spent walking around the Marina area. That evening Emma, Donna and I went Dune Bashing on a 4WD tour, which ended up at an Arabic camp for some food and shisha and some free beer! The next morning, after an excellent night, we set of too Fujayrah through some fantastic mountains for a relax on the beach and some snorkeling. Returning to Dubai that evening we headed out to a bar, which are within very swanky hotels. The hotels are amazing and I had to keep pinching myself, there is so much money floating around Dubai it is unbelievable. Just a quick thanks to Emma and Donna for showing me round I had a great time birds!!
Arriving back in Perth I was straight back to work and then down to the South West with Steve for a roadtrip for some surfing and fishing. The next weekend I took a trip to Rockingham to see some Sea Lions and Penguines. I am back in Perth now, nearly at
the end of my contract so I amd taking a three day break on Rottnest Island before flying North to do three months fruit picking to allow me to gain my second year visa.
Am guessing it may be a while until my next update unless I get eaten by a croc!

Hi Matt,
I recognise that camel from a previous dune trip - don't they kick!
Hope that the exotic dancers were on good form and that you had a great evening.
Thanks for coming over - you do know that your Mother paid Russ and Sarah to get married to lure you back! It was really good to see you. Watch out for the crocs.
