Real Estate in WATermites are very big in Real Estate business in Western Australia. You find houses throughout the country. Reckon you wouldn't like to live with them, would you ?
Beloved people ... you might wonder what has happened to us, no more reports, communication breakdown. To begin with, we are doing pretty well and hope you do too. After waving goodbye to lovely Asia our ship landed in the harbour of Darwin, Northern Territory/Australia. Massive culture shock caught us instantly (which can be anticipated after almost 8 months in India/Asia), though we recovered quickly and decided to head off west to explore the rural country for some real ozzy experience. Some might be astonished at the direction we took, for sure the east is not less beautiful, but we were longing for loneliness, emptiness and calmness after sometimes loud, noisy and crowded Asia. The east coast is peppered with places, towns, hot-spots (which aren't seldom very colonized by germans) and we certainly didn't want to constantly bump into "crazy", partying backpackers. And ... we succeeded, short after leaving Darwin, we got swallowed in the Kimberley region in Western Australia. Before puzzling you with details, some words and little history about the island ... sorry the continent.
Hmm... honestly there is not that much too say (which shoudn't necessarily interpreted negatively), first settlers were the Aborigines about 50,000 years back !!
A countryman will surviveNo matter what happens in the urban world, house prices up, job problems, Dow Jones plunging, living and working in WA is always tougher than that.
Evidence of the first european approachs to discover this huge mass of land are not crystal clear, portuguese and spanish traders/conquerors stranded on the west coast, dutch sailors touched the country around 400 years ago (Marco Polo has to be mentioned who might has discovered Australia already in 1292), but is seems they all couldn't really make use of the land, too dry, too infertile, the conditions must have been throughput not very inviting. Finally James Cook landed and made the first serious development efforts. Did you know that England "used" Australia in the very beginning to get rid of its "unwanted" people. Well you better do not recall an Australian to this early commencements of the European Australian population, they might not like the idea.
Apart from this, the land is full of emptiness, which has plenty of stuff to offer, i.e. extremly old sediments, rocks and geologic formations in general which you won't find anywhere else. Flora and Fauna which is in most instances unique. Looking at the records, Australia seems peculiar for its inconspicuousness, people are frighteningly friendly (except some very remote places in the outbacks). Sooo, before putting you guys into hibernation mode, we both determined
OVERSIZEDon't mess with these truckers ... for sure you gonna lose the battle.
that we like the country ... but making a living might be a little challenging.
After almost 6,000 km w/o cell and radio signal, plenty of kangaroos, emus, dingos, lizards, parrots, crocs and some humans we enjoy very much a day in the most isolated big city of the world, called Perth.
While continuing to stroll further down we keep on thinking of you and give you a thumbs-up from down under.
No worries mates :)
Wild wild westThis big fellow joined us while taking a short break. Scary but harmless and definitely not very chatty (like almost every creature in the Kimberley region.
cheers mateMaking a living as a farmer or ranger, I reckon that could do it ... as long as I'm not running short in ice-cold beer.
