Jindalee Beach
A work in progress .... We are nearing the end of 2009 and our 2nd full year in Australia. Sorry the blogs have become few and far between but life has become pretty normal over here and we have our routines down to a fine art!
Our 3rd Australian Christmas was a really quiet one. Still doesn't feel like Christmas should and I don't think it ever will. I feel like we bypassed Christmas totally this year and just didn't get into the spirit of it at all but hoping that next year will be different as we have family coming over to celebrate with us!
Butler is fast becoming civilised (yay!!!) and we nearly have a completed beach at Jindalee. The pub 'The Cornerstone' opened in style at the end of November. It's a very english pub and has a feel like 'Wetherspoons' in the UK. They are also starting Butler's link to the railway line this will go directly into Perth and it will be fantastic to have our own train station. Hopefully, one day, we will also get the freeway coming up this far ... things that you take for granted living in the UK I suppose!
We have had
Stairs down to the beach
Finally we have full access to the beach without having to tackle huge sanddunes anymore! a few hot days pushing 40 degrees already so think we will be in for a hot Summer - thank god we have access to the beach now! We have also taken on board cleaning the pool as the pool guy used to come during the day when we were at work and kept leaving open the side gates so anyone could have walked in! It's actually quite easy to maintain ... you just take a sample of the pool water and go the pool shop and they check it out on the computer and tell you exactly what you need! Last time we walked away with armfuls of bottles of different chemicals and 75kg of pool salt - Doug loves playing at being the pool guy and mixing all the chemicals - I just hope my hair doesn't turn green!!!!!
We had a little visitor to the house in the form of bob tail lizard ... it just walked right by the living room window on a Sunday morning when we were sat down having our breakfast - it was huge! Doug carefully picked it up in a box and walked it across the road to the park
Doug and Biscuit
Best Mates having a beer on the beach after a hard day's work ;0) that's opposite the house as we presume that's where it came from ... Doug watched it for hours but it freaked me out a bit as it was really big.
Doug finally had a few weeks off work and decided to catch up on all his jobs. I came home from work one day and Doug and our neighbour Dave had repainted the entire house! So now we don't live in a crappy blue house anymore ... we did have to buy about 20 paint sample tins first though as we couldn't decide what colour to go for. In the end we played it safe with a lovely fresh cream colour with a gorgeous marine blue for the bedroom window and also around the garage door. I think it looks so much better now and clean and fresh.
I can't believe it only took them a morning to do ... I think they rushed through the painting so that they could go playing golf in the afternoon though (Doug is still obssesed with golf and is always planning his next round.) Just before Christmas we went with a big group of friends to play 'SupaGolf' in the Swan
The pub finally opens!
At last a bit of civilisation! Valley. It was such a laugh - we teamed into girls Vs boys and one of my friends was 8 1/2 months pregnant and she still won! SupaGolf is just like normal golf but you play with oversized balls and you only have 4 clubs (or sticks as I kept calling them!). It actually is a lot harder than it looks but we had a such a laugh playing you forgot how crap you were! Afterwards we had a BBQ lunch - it was lovely way to spend a Sunday morning.
The neighbours also had a fancy dress party and the theme was 'icons of the 80's!' we had such a laugh picking out costumes and deciding who to go as ... infact we spent many a night going through the internet to see who we could go as (really so I could listen to all the music again as I love the 80's!). In the end I decided to go as Sam Fox and Doug went as Slash from Guns N Roses. It was a brilliant night and we had such a good time.
We also have a new car a huge Ford estate (well over here
Bob Tail Lizard
Our little visitor ... think he wanted Sunday morning brekkie with us! they are called 'stationwagon'!!). We thought it would be a bit more practical to have a bigger car as well as we can go further and also it's better for the dogs as they have more room in the back. We already have a few trips planned so that we can trial the car and hopefully I will talk Dougie into getting some camping equipment so that we can up North a bit for weekends ... he's still scared of the spiders I think!
Hope everyone has a fantastic New Year and here's hoping 2010 will be a great year for everyone!
Happy New Year!
