The next zoo that I visited was AQWA, the Aquarium of Western Australia which is located in Hillarys Boat Harbour in the town/suburb of Hillarys which is quite a way north of Perth. It's not a huge aquarium, but has a wide range of species and exhibits from across Western Australia. From the outside the aquarium was quite a large building located right on the coastline. Just inside the entrance to the aquarium is a row of five small tanks, each representing the one of the different geographical sections that the aquarium is divided into, with each representing a different part of the Western Australian coastline separated by latitude. These different sections are the Perth Coast, Shipwreck Coast, Great Southern Coast, Far North Coast, and Coral Coast. The aquarium also has two sections that are not ... read more

Look closely, you might think I made a spelling mistake, but this is no mistake. It's New Year's Eve and we had big plans for today and a night out with friends to celebrate the New Year ahead. The week so far had been pretty exhausting, the heat had been tough on all of us, not to mention that one of the bedrooms was so hot, the one without the air conditioning so we had to move a mattress in the living room for our friends to get the benefit of the air conditioning. Meanwhile we spent the night in Roobie to take advantage of the built in air conditioning. Back up at the house we were greeted by the dogs that we have been looking after, a Rottweiler and a Beagle, an unlikely pair of ... read more

Easter weekend marked Trish and the girls' last weekend in Perth and we wanted to do something special. It was glorious weather and so we managed to charter a yacht for a twilight cruise on Easter Monday for all of us. It was a beautiful 4 berth sailing yacht called 'Alphee' and operated out of Hilary's boat yard. Alphee is a 14m yacht - "Fully equiped with all the trimmings, Alphee offers great flexibility to enjoy yourself for an afternoon cruising in the beautiful clear waters of Western Australia"..... http://www.alphee.com.au/ It was a glorious day and very busy due to the bank holiday. We met at Hilary's and boarded the yacht at 2pm - John & Andrea, Tash & David, Trish, Shauna, Kelly and Lauren and Annie and I.... and enough food and drink to sink ... read more

The end of term was full on and I recognised my need for a break. I knew I needed to recharge my batteries and get a bit of perspective away frome the classroom. Early Good Friday, I nursed my end of term hangover with some Panadol and a 2.5 hr flight home. It was a good feeling flying into Perth, I was excited about seeing the farm for the first time in a year and I was ready to give my body a break from partying. I felt like I was skating on thin ice for a while and was more than happy to have a few quiet nights. Mum picked me up and we drove the 2.5 hrs to the farm. Everyone was there and of course there was a good vibe immediately. Dad, Blue, ... read more

After celebrating the Fact we made the Western Australian yesterday we have realised they print any old nonsense with the fact Robbie Fowler is on the front Today. He has just signed for Perth Glory and flew in today. We immediately start making plans to go to Sydney. Philip goes on a bike ride to Hilary’s boat harbour today where he has a foot massage this involve putting your feet into a bath of hot tea, which then becomes scalding hot by adding a kettle full of boiling water to the already hot water. The hotter the better they say. screaming like a girl the girls removes feet and layer of skin before the massage begins. The heavens open on the way home and we get drenched just as back in the real world we are ... read more

So we have now been out of the country 4 weeks! where does it go. it it only now four days till philip's run at the WACA and he still is yet to run over any bridges of note on this trip. Gephyrophobia is An abnormal and persistent fear of crossing bridges. Sufferers of this phobia experience undue anxiety even though they realize their fear is irrational. Philip suffers terribly and there are three big bridges on this run. Today he tries to negioate one on his run to hilarys Boat harbour he manages it but not well oh hell. We spend the day reading, dealing with the press and lying on the beach at hilarys after the 6 mile run. ... read more

Oh great his lordship just clears off and leaves me home alone for the day listening to the Mp3 and do what bears do. Philip runs to Hillary’s Boat harbour this morning and round it till he completes 10km he tells me he get very emotional and collapses on beach a tearful wreck, certainly come along way and I don't just mean literally since doing laps of the cardboard factory in the wind and rain. It may of taken the best part of 38 years but I think he is finally doing things the right way. I suppose had to change he Couldn't stay all his life down at heel Looking out of the window, staying out of the sun He then spends the day reading and making plans for world domination or something I stop ... read more

Hi all Today we drove up the motorway to Burns Beach, north of Hillarys Boat Harbour, for a night. It is a pretty spot, near where Rick and Sue are staying. Our van is a stone's throw from the beach. Tomorrow Rick and Sue will come with us south to Busselton, where we will base ourselves to explore the south west with them. They will get a cabin in the caravan park. This week we did a bit more exploring around Perth, including Kings Park, Swan River, North west beaches and drove around some of the more expensive areas. We took a drive 100km east to historic York, the oldest inland town in Australia. Another day we explored the Perth Hills and Mundaring Weir, which supplies water by pipeline to Kalgooli. Our car has been serviced, ... read more

The Story so Far...Excluding Hong Kong Finally I start a blog, Ive been saying id start one of these since Hong Kong but only now 3 weeks into the travelling do i get round to it. Its been the non stop work and constant tiredness that has held me up. Lee doesnt know ive started this yet. Its one of my few days off so have a bit of time, although i do have to go get a hair cut in the next hour, 35 degree weather does not agree with long hair and hectic work, ppl have started to complain the chips are soggy by the time they reach the table and its not the kitchens fault. On my first birthday in the land of Oz, here is what we did: Woke up late. Had a leisurely breakfast (while doing the laundry). Traveled to the Aquarium of Western Australia (AQWA) at Hillarys Boat Harbour. Had an awful lunch at Sorrento Quay. Got lost going home (but passed by some really good views at Swan Valley). Slept. Had a haircut (because it was Thursday, and trading hours are extended until 9PM). It was great! It's so...normal. ... read more
