Oh my oh my, it's the 1st of December already - can't believe it! As a rare treat we get a bit of a lie in this morning - only a 8am start instead of 6 and 7am but it's good enough. We all head to the beach office to book our tours and as ours only goes at 12.30pm we have a couple of hours to ourselves. The office says we can loan some snorkel gear for free so after learning how to fit myself up with fins and a mask we head off for my first ever snorkel adventure - how exciting! The reef is fantastic - the best I have seen so far. Just cannot get over how clear the sea is. After putting on my equipment in the sea it's time to ... read more

We hit Coral Bay where Ningaloo Reef is to have a look at the boat tours they do. Opted for the turtle Eco tour which sounded pretty cool! Our boat didn't leave until 12.30pm so we borrowed some snorkling gear and headed for the beach! We had a good hour snorkling, it was Lou's first time snorkling but she loved it I think - hurray we have a convert!! The reef itself is very large but it is lovely, so much colour and lots of different fish! kept an eye out for those deadly stone fish! ha ha! Lou, Suzi , Kim and me all went on the turtle tour so we all went to the beach first. Can I just take this time to let you know that the sea is flipping freezing over here!!! ... read more

Well it feels like a lifetime ago since I've been online...nearly forgetting my passwords!! The last few weeks have blurred into one big roadtrip so will try not bore you as I unravel it in my head. Not to worry though....we've made it safely to Darwin & are handing over the keys to Buddy to his rightful ownwers in the morning.....he's been great......seen us through the outback without too many hiccups!! So after Fremantle, in the south near Perth & the cold weather.....which now seems like a dream in this stifling heat & humidity that robs your sleep & sanity every night!!.......we moved up the coast to a place called Kalbarri....it was a 2 night stop....nice beach where we went on one of those cyclo-boats.....but the main reason we stopped there was to go to a ... read more

Hey there, Bilder vom Roadtrip folgen spätestens Anfang nächster Woche. So long... Flori... read more

I have to mention at this point that the only reason we were travelling up the West Coast of Australia was thanks to a guy called Colin who we met on Koh Tao in Thailand. As a fellow diver he raved about the snorkeling at Shark and Coral Bay, the diving at Exmouth and on the Ningaloo Reef and of course the fact that this was one of the best places in the world to see and swim with Whale Sharks. These animals are enormous, in fact they’re the biggest fish in the sea with specimens up to 13m long being seen at Ningaloo, where they return ‘reliably’ every year to feed. So, for a couple of months prior to arriving here we had set our sights on getting in the water and coming face to ... read more

Next stop was two nights in the amazing coral bay after another mammoth journey. A tiny little settelment right on the Ningaloo Marine Park. For those not in the know the Ningaloo reef is a huge set of reef systems in WA that rivals the great barrier reef in terms of the number of species of coral and fish that you can find there. It only receives a fraction of the numbers of people that the great barrier reef does so you don't have to fight the crowds. Coral Bay is beautiful with clear waters and soaring temperature, you can paddle out from the shore to the reef as it's only 50 m away. Did lots of snorkeling for the two days we were there and saw loads of different types of fish, including Nemo. Other ... read more

Hi all, Hope everyone is well and happy. Thanks for the emails from the Swifts and Gary - good to hear the basketball and cricket is going well - we miss the Friday nights especially. Also the letters+ from the Nigro's for Lewis and Ruby. We are all well and still having a gret time. Ningaloo reef is excellent. We are camped in Cape Range National Park, just off the beach. Water is warm and snorkelling wonderful - lots of tropical fish, coral, stingrays, sharks and we all got to swim with a turtle! Prior to that we spent some time at Millstream Chichester NP, which was beautiful and explored the gorges at Karijini NP - great swimming holes as well. Also went to Marlbe Bar and had rain there - most unusual. Great time to ... read more

Back on dry land we bid farewell to the Pelicans and drove solid until sundown to the Overlander Roadhouse back on the Great North Western Highway 1. As the rich sun faded the beautiful Milky Way came into view for a dazzling 15 minutes before the Moon took over lighting duties in the East and we were struck by an amazing sense of our location on a planet which is spinning on its axis. With another hefty drive ahead we awoke and continued our way north through Carnarvon and the bone dry river Gascoyne and past hundreds of dead kangaroos being devoured by crows and the odd large eagle. To much jubilation, we actually drove across the Tropic of Capricorn on the way and posed for a memorable snap with our hippy wagon. Chugging on we ... read more

We are now a little further up the coast from Shark Bay where we swam with the dolphins at a place called Coral Bay. It is right on the Ningaloo Reef. At first we were a little disappointed with the snorkelling as much of the coral is dead. Not because of man-made reasons as you might expect, but because there was a coral spawn about five years ago which went horribly wrong, and ended up actually killing the coral! The locals say it is actually very good for the coral in the long run - I am not convinced! Despite this, Ningaloo Reef is pretty amazing for its animal life. On a single snorkel yesterday, in the space of an hour, we saw two octopus, a sea snake, a turtle, many rays, and lots of big ... read more
