1st July We left the beautiful Lake Argyle around 9-am and arrived in Kununurra about an hour later - too early to check into the caravan park. We were able to register but couldn’t move in until 11-am. The boys checked out our allocated sites and worked out a plan of attack to park the vans in this really nice park. A lot of people had queued up by now and this seems to happen most days especially at this time of year. You really do need to book ahead. We are so glad we have done that, especially in the popular places. We set up in short time - we are getting pretty good at this now and are a lot quicker at packing up and setting up. Kununurra is ... read more

This Blog is being used to upload videos taken so far. A tip - when loading video you should pause the playing of the video until it is fully loaded to get a continuous playback. The first video was taken at Blackall Caravan Park. During the tourist season the camp put on a camp oven roast and entertainment every night. We enjoyed our night. Our Gold Coast friends Duncan and Lizzie (Kiwi's) met us at Roma and travelled to Longreach with us. The second video was at the first free camp we experienced. The road train proved to be a taste of what was to come that night. A lesson - don't stay at free camps close to major highways if you want a good night's sleep. Third Video is an overview of the riverside camp ... read more

Kununurra Kununurra is in far northern Western Australia located at the eastern extremity of the Kimberley Region only 37 kilometres from the border with the Northern Territory. Kununurra was developed to service the Ord River Irrigation scheme, and solely owes its existence to this scheme. It is the largest town in Western Australia north of Broome, with the closest town being Wyndham, 100 kilometres away, where much of the initial infrastructure for Kununurra was freighted into by ship. The town is situated among the scenic hills and ranges of the far north-east Kimberley Region and has an abundance of fresh water provided by the Ord River Diversion dam and Lake Argyle. Agricultural crops grown in the Ord River Irrigation Area (ORIA) have changed over the years but are still a major economic influence. Tourism and mining ... read more

There was a walking trail behind the cafe area that the caretakers put us onto so we thought we would head out and give it a go before it got too warm. The trail led to a lagoon and the entire area was littered with native boab trees which Rachel has taken a liking to. We thought it best not to get too close to the water's edge at the lagoon; didn't want to become breakfast for any giants lurking beneath the surface. We then headed back out along the dirt road and headed east towards Kununurra. Along the way we stopped at The Grotto and got some fantastic pics but again it seems such locations would be more picturesque during the wet season. We were pretty drained after a few hard days on the road ... read more

Sorry about extreme delay between blogs- having technical and remoteness issues. The whole WA coast has been awesome and we could spend many more weeks in that area. Highlights would include Geraldton, the fantastic and remote Cape Peron, the Nigaloo reef at Cape Range and the unique aboriginal settlement of the Dampier Peninsula and Cape Leveque. We spent the last week traversing the Gibb River road and have enjoyed some fantastic gorges including Windjana and the Bell Gorge at Silent Grove. Stayed on a cattle station on the Gibb River Rd and tackled some fine river crossings. Just the Bungle Bungles and Lake Argyle left to discover in WA and the over into NT. The kids are great and score the trip a 9.99/10 which sounds pretty satisfactory- to scared to query why not a perfect ... read more

We left you wwoofing on a pearl farm north of Broome on the sparsley habited Dampier penninsular. We were hoping that by wwoofing with a pearl farmer we would be able to get a foot in the door work-wise, but the problem is that only a few years ago there were 16 pearl farms the global financial melt-down has reduced that number to 2 so the jobs are fewer and those who have them are less inclined to come and go. We spent a reasonably uneventful few weeks with James, Sarah and their two small boys. Mainly gardening - pulling out weeds, mulching and sorting out their vege patches. We were able to get more-or-less everything booked for Shanghai to Hereford so we're all set to go and we're both very excited about that. We didn't ... read more
