A week doesn't pass me by without some kind of adventure here!
This week we lost all our phones, internet and ATM and eftpos services. It would have been funny but you can't buy food without money and it our society of cards many of us struggled!
Other facilities in town also shut down- for example on Wednesday night our netball game was canceled due to massive rains but no one knew as the phone lines were dow. We found out when we drve out there only to find the courts in darkness.
I had a great night on Thursday as I went out for dinner with some girls- 2 nurses and 2 teachers from the district high school. We ate at a gallery/ restaurant called Jilla and the woodfired pizza was big enough for me to have 2 left over lunches!
My weekend also seeemed to move quite quickly- which is good as the last few weekends I have been comepletely bored out of my brains!
Friday night we had a lazy bbq and watched the brilliant sunsets. Saturday night was spent having dinner at the Windmill (seafood crepe yummo) and then hitting the Boab for
fortnightly kareoke. I also so spent hours in the garden on Saturday, tending to my weeds. The garden is slowly becoming more Vegemite friendly. the highkight of the weekend was driving out to Willare. We had all been told thsst it was likely that the road from Broome to Derby would be closed this week. Well, this morning we got the news that is was, so Keia picked me up and we drove out to the 'road closed' sign to have a look around. I saw 90% of town out there all doing the same thing- having a sticky beak at the water levels.
It is truly a magnificant sight. It is wildlife central, birds, kangaroos, cows all out in force. The water across the road was also an amzing sight. People had donned their bathers for a Sunday slash. The pictures tell the story much better than I can. So make sure you check them out!
The roads will remain closed for most of the week and it is no wonder we don't hav phones, ATM's etc as the blue coaxial cable you can see floating in some of the pictures, probably isn't that water proof! We only
Sunday sesh
These two old ducks enjoy the passing traffic hope the road open up so we can get to Broome next Friday as we have a weekend booked for the Waifs concert.
So- here is this week's top ten:
1. Having my first 'Road Closed' experience
2. Witnessing families swim in the road while holding a stubbie
3. Friday night bbqs- good laughs. great food, fun times
4. Getting phone calls from Perth/Mandurah friends
5. My class who was well behaved ALL week!
6. Having the weekend go quickly and having lots of fun things to do
7. St Patrick's Day- Lenten Promise Free Pass
8. Getting money out of the ATM last night while it was operational for all of about 3 hours!
9. Frozen vegies- cos they are always fresh and don't sell out in a few hours
10. My green thumb- a new apendage has sprouted!
It was like the freeway when we got out there.
