Saturday 4th – overnight it rained heavily and woke us up - it was still very overcast in the morning so we had a bit of a lie-in. We had decided to have a quietish day to get over the rigours of the Manta Ray trip so it was late morning when we walked to the Bakery for a loaf of bread. Even I was tempted by the splendid array of lovely cakes there, but we resisted them and just came away with the bread! After lunch the skies cleared a bit so we strolled down on to the beach. We wanted to walk along the beach in the direction of the boat ramp we had used for our trip yesterday but the tide was very high cutting off a dry route. Undaunted, we just waded ... read more

Thursday 2nd June - today was the day for the first of the two trips we had booked for ourselves. We were up and about fairly early although the trip didn’t depart until 10:00am. But at 9:50am we were waiting on the beach ready to board Miss Coral Bay III – a glass bottomed boat. We were scheduled to be on (and sometimes off!!) the boat for the next two hours. We were suitably dressed for the occasion as we both had on our wetsuits and were carrying our snorkeling gear. The boat was large enough to carry about 20 people comfortably but today there were only 8 of us so we all had plenty of room. The first 45 minutes or so were spent drifting over some magnificent coral and looking out for the wonderfully ... read more

Tuesday 31st and we were on our way to Coral Bay. Today’s journey was not too long at 238 kms and was fairly uneventful. At roughly the half way point we pulled in to Minilya Roadhouse for a break. When we arrived there was one car/caravan and a smallish road-train. By the time we were ready to leave there were about 10 car/caravan combinations and a second HUGE road-train. It had three long trailers and, in total, must have been about 100 meters long - probably the longest we have ever seen. We got chatting to some fellow caravanners about good places to stay and we were pleased that the huge wagon went back out on the road before we did so we didn’t have to worry about it wanting to overtake us. We kept the ... read more

Well Hello, On the Monday Greg and Judy, people who we met in Exmouth through the Yacht Club lent us their car for the day, we were able to get our stores, petrol, and water for our continued journey. We then went for a drive around the other side (West side) so we could see what the water was doing? We drove to Tantabiddi and the Lighthouse and took some pictures. On that evening we went around to Lauren’s Places for Dinner which was lovely. (Lauren is a friend of ours. Poor Dave still didn’t get to meet this model like husband of hers as he was in Perth doing training, but he meet his rival in the gorgeous P(the dog).(Some people are lovely and very generous) We are now back sailing! Left Exmouth Tuesday sailed ... read more

Greetings all, David and I decided to leave on Sunday from Yardie Creek, Brian and Debbie said they would stay until the weather is better. We took off had a lovely sail down to a gorgeous Bay not sure what it was called still inside the reef. We had a reasonable sleep although the wind came up during the night we were up a few times checking on things. We set sail at 7.00pm for Coral Bay today (Monday) and can I say it was a very spirited sail, we went outside the reef as the next stretch of the reef has lots of ‘Bommies’ which are large coral heads so you need to be very careful. Anyway……. back to where I was very spirited sail, we sailed between 7.5 – 11 knots whoo hoo…….. were ... read more

Tuesday 19th Hi All, Another day full of adventure as Colin my son-in law would say. Second attempt to get into Coral Bay Village got our tender sorted got to the shore no worries on a winner today we thought! We will walk around the point and walk along the waters edge me carry a back pack Dave carrying a 10lt container for fuel, we walked about 1k and a half before the water was too deep to keep walking woops ( did I forget to mention the 4ft sand coloured shark that was within the shallows with us and David with no adventure in him), what do we do now! Climb up the sands dunes, I didn’t know I would be crawling up sand dunes, well maybe a sleight exaggeration! Thank God there was a ... read more

Monday 18th We are now in Coral Bay pulled in at 5.00 yesterday afternoon, had a swim then drinks etc…. Today we decided we would try and walk into Coral Bay village, we would have to get on the small boat to motor to shore. I got out of the boat thinking I was safe when David yelled, watch out, the boat knocked me to the water. The wave had pushed the boat onto me. I got soaked and just laughed what else could I do, would have made a great action shot but at the time the camera was the last thing on our minds. We then thought we had a walk of about a 1k, but we walked the1 k and realised we had a long hard walk in the sand to get to ... read more

Our first day at sea Wow! We survived with flying colours. We are now at Cape Cuvier parked up for the night, let me describe our scene the water is deep aqua with sheer face cliffs, quite a stunning view and to top it off we can see a large ship at the jetty waiting for salt very impressive. (For those of you who don’t know Cape Cuvier is where Dave works) It has been a great sailing day cloudy which has kept the sun from coming out and made things a little cooler, plenty of wind our speeds have be between 4.5 – 10.5 knots and it has taken us 8 hours to get here. Guess what we haven’t yelled at each other once. Dave is very pleased with our new main sheet system ... read more

As humpback whales migrated south we were getting further north, along the beautiful and remote West Coast of Australia. The sheer scale of the country tipping the kilometres into the thousands. With tourist brochures and notes from other travellers literally spilling out of the glove box we came to the highly recommended Quobba. The name, sounding like a teasing cricket toss, enticed us to play and we duly pitched up in the midday heat. We had been reliably informed that camping by the beach would be free as the ranger had 'gone home' for the season. This refreshing occurrence was indeed true and we set about finding a spot to camp. The heat outside of our air conditioned Holden was stifling. A dry heat that was made worse by the amount of flies that pestered our ... read more

Hi again Well, we met up with Pete, Laura, Georgina & Kev in Coral Bay on Monday (Pete’s 30th B’day) after a drive into a strong headwind again, from Exmouth. We had a lovely dinner at a local resturaunt to celebrate. The caravan park (Peoples Park) is situated right near the most beautiful beach. I know we’re probably boring you all to death with our descriptions, but things just seem to get better at each destination. I’m sure the photos will back that up. Sorry to hear it’s been so miserable on the Gold Coast. It makes us feel guilty, reporting on our travels? We had a bit of a drama yesterday (Tues) after getting bogged in some very soft sand. Rose didn’t make things easy by reminding me that the tide was coming in and ... read more
