While Augusta is not the most western or most southern point of Western Australia, it is the south western corner where the Indian and Southern oceans in a tumbling mess as tides and currents fight.
It was not long into Australia's history that a decision was made that there needed to be a lighthouse on this corner which is a maze of reefs rocks and small outcrops capable of sinking even modern vessels.

This corner is very picturesque, and for a relatively small fee one can go on a conducted tour of the lighthouse and climb to the viewing platform just below the lense.

If in this corner - this is a must see part of our maritime history. For the very enegetice, there is a 100 ks walking trail to the next lighthouse up the coast which was built after 12 major ship wrecks in relatively quick succession.
