overlooking the townthere was nice little paths all around the hills near the town. This is a sweet view of Sorrento looking west. You can see across Port Phillip Bay to Swan Island in the distance.
This past weekend we took the ferry from Queenscliff to Sorrento. This is across the big bay that Melbourne is on. Andrew, Daniel, our Auzzie friend Taz, and I took the trip on Saturday. On the way to the ferry there Taz took us on a bit of a tour through Breamlea, Barwon Heads, and Point Lonsdale. There were a lot of good beach and rocky breaks around there that we hadn’t checked out before like Bancorra, and 13th beach. I got to see a fairy penguin at Point Lonsdale… a dead one at least, but it was still cool.
It is only about a 40 minute ferry ride, but if you were to try to drive to Sorrento from Queenscliff you would have to go all the way up to Melbourne and back down on the other side of the bay. It would probably take about 3+ hours! The ferry ride was really sweet, lots of cool land formations and scenery. You could even see some of the sky scrapers all the way in Melbourne if you looked really close. On the other side, in Sorrento, we did a couple of short hikes and went along the beach. The
beaches had some really cool rock formations as well as some amazing waves. The waves looked pretty much perfect to ride… except that there were huge rocks poking around them in random places. Nevertheless, they were well overhead, barreling, and lining up for a long ways down the beach. The town of Sorrento was nice and laid back. Mostly restaurants and little shops here and there, it was fun to get a look around it. While we were there Taz got a CD of classic Australian songs and tunes. It had songs like: didgeridoo solos, “waltzing matilda”, “Tie me Kangaroo Down”, “The Pub With No Beer”, and a bunch of others. We listened to it on the drive back from the ferry, pretty funny stuff listening to all those crazy Auzzies.
hollow empty wavethis wave has an amazing left, its been barreling like that for about 5 seconds already.
Rocks!this is why the waves were empty... lots of submerged rocks
