Background: Aboriginal settlers arrived on the continent from Southeast Asia about 40,000 years before the first Europeans began exploration in the 17th century. No formal territorial claims were made until 1770, when Capt. James COOK took possession in the name of Great Britain. Six colonies were created in the late 18th and 19th centuries; they federated and became the Commonwealth of Australia in 1901. The new country took advantage of its natural resources to rapidly develop its agricultural and manufacturing industries and to make a major contribution to the British effort in World Wars I and II. In recent decades, Australia has transformed itself into an internationally competitive, advanced market economy. It boasted one of the OECD's fastest growing economies during the 1990's, a performance due in large part to economic reforms adopted in the 1980's. Long-term concerns include pollution, particularly depletion of the ozone layer, and management and conservation of coastal areas, especially the Great Barrier Reef.

Avstralija, kje si? Oceania » Australia » Victoria » Melbourne
Tudi vreme je v Melbournu bol nikakvo, ampak kot pravijo: If you don't like the weather, wait 10 minutes, it wull change..

Final European entry Oceania » Australia » Victoria » Melbourne
Hello everyone, How's things? Hope things are fine and/or dandy in your part of the world. It's been a while hasn't it? It's just that I've been really really slack. I am finally home now and to slightly mixed feelings as I begin to adjust to life back in Melbourne. I don't think I'm quite used to not having to walk everywhere at the moment which means i'm having trouble dispensing my new found energy. Perhaps I should consider some jumping-around-that-I-pass-as-dancing in my living room? Or maybe some Iron Maiden stylised riffing and jumping around that I try to pass off [View Full Entry]

Verder he [View Full Entry]

Melbourne - The Capital of AFL, delectable dishes and centre for style. I simply love Melbourne. The great bars and relentless nightlife, the food is plentiful and delicious from every corner of the world. I feel that Melbourne's resturants will be hard to beat anywhere else in Australia but am looking forward to comparing. I found this travel site on the web..www.totaltravel.com which I have been using as a guide for my tavels and for much needed inspiration. I am now excited to explore the 'awe inspiring landscape of volcanic features', a tantalisi [View Full Entry]

It’s the equivalent of Super Bowl Weekend here in Melbourne. Australian Rules Football holds its Grand Final tomorrow. Footy (as it is also called) is very popular here in Melbourne and while it is played around the country, almost of all the teams are in Victoria. To give a bad description of it, it is a bit of a cross between American Football and Soccer. The aim is to score between posts, by only kicking it, or handballing it (like punching it with your fist), and you are not allowed to throw. Anyway its pretty much been footy fever here [View Full Entry]
