Day 391 (21.04.08)
It was our last week of work at the office in the city before we were all to be moved to a brand spanking new set up. It was going to be a little way out of the city but with the promise of a great working environment and, as most of the mates we had made were going over, we planned to give it a bash.
As it was our last week we thought we would make the most of our city centre location and take a trip up the Eureka Tower. Standing head and shoulders above any of the other skyscrapers in the city landing the accolade of the highest viewing platform in the southern hemisphere it was a view of the city we couldn’t pass up. Gathering the group of fellow 'Yellow Pages' we were accompanied by Rob, Bevo and Veng, and all was set for an amusing trip! We walked the few steps around the corner to the tower. It was cheaper than we had initially thought it would be at around 15 bucks which we were glad about. Rising the 80+ floors in about 38 seconds, we could feel our ears
popping as we rose. It was amazing seeing the numbers of floors roll past as we continued skywards.
Reaching the top, we stepped out to the viewing floor. The views were amazing. The floor to ceiling windows continued all the way around the viewing floor giving an amazing 360 view of the city and the bay. We continued to wander around spotting landmarks we knew and finding places we were yet to explore. As we looked out over the city we'd begun to love the sun started to drop in the sky giving us a fantastic sunset and with the lights of the city coming to life we watched as Melbourne by day gradually turned to Melbourne by night! Well worth the visit.
As the sun went down we had the option to go into 'the box'! This is a glass box that when you enter is opaque with clever lighting (or something), when inside the box slowly moves out of the building to dangle precariously over nothing but air down the 80 stories below. When fully extended, the opaque glass suddenly turns clear suddenly giving you the view under you feet dropping to the Melbourne streets below.
Thinking that the we had already been treated to a fantastic view of the city we opted not to pay the extra to go in the box, leaving it to Veng to test it out for us.
Taking a last look around the stunning views we went down the elevator once more. With our feet firmly planted on ground level we all went our separate ways.
Day 392 - Day 394 (22.04.08 - 24.04.08)
Tuesday brought about another day of work followed by our weekly dancing session. This week was learning a little Charleston Tandem and we stayed for the 8 beat class where we had moved onto our turns and the 'swing out'. Excellent work!
Making the most of Curve bar in our last week Wednesday saw us stopping off for a cheeky pot (Aussie equivalent of just less than a half pint!) after work before Mark had to head off for Basketball. The last day in the office brought about a bit of sadness that we would be leaving town and a couple of members of the team. We were sent off with a BBQ at lunch and 'naturally' another couple of beers at
Curve where we were able to commandeer a couple of the bar's posh glasses to send home to remind us of the time we had whittled away there. Inevitably the evening finished with another installment of Lost.
