Finalising details
Grandma, Doug and I were treated to afternoon tea as we discussed final details for the ceremony and reception. Blogger Bec
Ah, the glorious smell of routine!
We have settled into a lovely little routine of housewife and breadwinner, with me cooking (and occasionally cleaning though not really) for the family as Doug potters off to work to earn some cash to put towards the substantial debt we have racked up having the world's dream holiday.
Living back in a country town has been really refreshing for me. After living anonymously for so long in big cities, and foreign cities at that, it has been a welcome change to have people wave, nod, lift their finger from the steering wheel as you pass. I like going to the coffee shop and people know you. I like that Sue can go to Coles and the checkout chick asks about Doug. No doubt, that would grate after a long period, like it did when I was growing up in St.Helens, but for now, I find it really comforting.
My nesting instinct has been steadily growing and I know it will be very important for me to make our Dhaka apartment very home-y.
The experience of keeping the home fires burning was interesting for the most part but
Baby fix!!
I was so scared of holding Ella! She is so tiny I was convinced I would hurt her in some way. She did a WHOPPER poo on me and had the hiccups, lucky me! Baby fix!!

as the bank balance kept dwindling and I started to feel guilty about my daily "Dr.Phil"and "Öprah" fix, I realised that the Victorian Institute of Teaching really did need a kick up the arse. i was utterly sick of waiting for them to decide when I am able to teach.
So after a few harassing phone calls, I am now cleared to teach and will be earning money as of tomorrow morning: hallu-bloddy-lujah.
Thank God for that. And at $219 a day, for 6 hours work, we are happy little Vegemites.
In amongst the "squeaky wheel getting oiled" phone calls, we have managed to fit in a spot of wedding organisation. Handy, seeings the wedding is in 6 weeks...
Yesterday in the pouring rain (which was fabulous as Australia is in the grip of a deadly drought), we dragged Grandma to the flower wholesalers to choose wedding flowers and then splashed off through after school traffic to the opposite side of the city to have a meeting with Nora, our venue manager extraordinare.
A very welcome coffee and lemon slice later, all the details are sorted and we are ready to be married! My initial worries about being married at a golf club have been assuaged (it felt like my small home town and that scared me and yes, I am a snob) and now I see the venue for the spectacular natural setting that it is.
We have also fitted in a few visits with friends on this fly by trip into the big smoke - a friend about to have a baby, old teaching friends of Doug's (GREAT lasagne and wonderful conversation, Robyn - THANKS!) as well as meeting my newest cousin, Ella who is a grand total of 11 days old today.
We'll be laying very low key for the next month as we earn money in Sale, then come July, we will be back in Melbourne, living it up in the lead up to the wedding.
Keep safe, be well, and please drop us a line when you have a chance!

Hello
Great to hear you've finally found teaching work Bec. The Centrelink/housewife type is so not you! I can feel you're excitement about your upcoming nuptials in your blog. I'd love to have a chat on the phone sometime soon. What number can I reach you guys at and when would be a good time over the weekend? Say hi to the checkout chick at coles for me!
