Another cold showery day. Went to church (Christ Church, Auckland St.) in the morning but did not go to Mr Moore's pew as he asked me to, for arriving there late I went into the nearest empty pew, however Mr M spotted me and we walked to his house together. It is in St Kilda, a nice large place with some good rooms in it. Introduced to Mr M's two sons, a son-in-law and four young ladies, 3 of them Miss M's and was told that there was another laid up. Early dinner, after went into a large room which they use as a school room, playroom, smoking and ballroom. Left about 4 o'clock and glad to get away having a headache and small talk exhausted. Don't think that I shall get on there.

Came back here and stopped in the rest of the day. Found that Mr Darlot (for whom I have a letter of introduction) is Mr M's squatting partner and is at present up country, but is expected down at the beginning of next month.

This diary is being kept during my voyage to Australia and back which I am undertaking for the benefit of my health and as a cure (light and inexpensive) for headaches. I left England on Thursday 18th April 1878.
