the gang!
partying in l'otel st kilda.... again! Hello, well I’m sorry that its been soooo long, but ive been rather busy doing lots of exciting things!!
First of all, my last few days in St.Kilda (Melbourne)… as you probably guessed, I had a pretty good time there, I felt really settled, made some brilliant friends and we were all working, and living the high life! I really did feel at home there (ironic, as the hostel I stayed in is called home!!)
I think we all got too settled there tho, the thought of actually venturing into Melbourne town center was something that just didn’t really cross our minds anymore! There was a good group of us there, 3 Scottish lads, simon, euan and rick who I spent about every second of the day with! And my roommates mel, Sandra and amber. So my time there trundled along nicely, we had some gorgeous weather, and some not so gorgeous!! Its true what they say that Melbourne has 4 seasons in one day… it would literally be raining in the morning, then turn into 29 degree heat, by 4 o clock be 15 degrees and freezing and then in the evening turn warm and muggy!! Amazing, but we loved
on the beach
me, gem and kate and becky (two girls from uni!) on the beach in st. kilda it… kept us on our toes!! I worked in Greasy Joes as a waitress a few days a week, the people in there were brill.. and it was a fun, young place to be. Euan and simon worked in neighboring bars so free drinks were always on the cards!!
we had some really good times, there were fireworks on the beach and visits to the local fun fair!!
me and euan even endured a piercing together (dont worry mum.. it was only in the top of my ear!!) and its cool.. i love it!!
One night, me and they guys from work went to a barbecue, it was good fun and the ozzies certaintly know how to do a good barby!! On the way home me and sharon (a girl i work with) came across loads of clothes just dumped outside a shop.. they all had there tags on and obviously were not wanted so we had a cheeky rummage through.. there was some pretty cool stuff in there and sharon came away with a whole new wardrobe!! We also came across a fridge just left in the middle of the road, which was pretty amusing.. made more so by
ooo la la!
me and gem ready for my last night in st. kilda :-( the fact that we left our empty cider bottles inside!! he he!!
On the 10th of December, Gemma was to arrive in Melbourne.. in honor of the fact that most of the people I had lived with were going their separate ways for Christmas, and as a good excuse for a party (as if we needed one!!) I decided to organise a Christmas party!! I got $5 of of everyone and did a big barbecue shop and got crackers and party hats. Martine and Antony, (the owners of the hostel) got the Christmas box of decorations down.
Gemma arrived at the hostel at about 3 o clock and I was waiting for her holding a plaque with her name on it!! I took her to greasy joes where the lads were watching footy and we had a few drinks sitting in the sunshine. We trundled back to the hostel and about 5 of us put the decorations up. There is a big barbecue area where we all socialise and we made it into a little santas grotto (well at the time we thought it was amazing… as Martine pointed out to me the next day.. it looked like a 5
goon!
nick, (from my earlier road trip) comes to melbourne! year old had done it!!) he he! But we put all the tables together and had bowls and bowls of crisps and sweets all draped in tinsel and party poppers! There was about 30 of us all together and along with a good barbecue and 6 boxes of wine, everyone got into the Christmas spirit!! Hat wearing was compulsory and everyone had a bout 10 party poppers each! The party lead on to playing games and it was brilliant fun!! (gem did have to go to bed early tho… but ill put that down to “sunstroke” ha ha ha!!!)
The next day we chilled out, I showed her the sights of St.Kilda and introduced her to everyone she had forgotten she had met the night before! Wed was L’otel night… it’s an awesome little bar and Wednesday night is Indie night, so obviously I loved it.. we have made it tradition to go every Wednesday for the past couple of months and had a brilliant time! On Thursday me and Gemma went into Melbourne city, it really is beautiful as far as cities go! We caught the tram and had a wonder around the shops, where we both unsuccessfully tried
fairground fun!!
me, amber and rich etc at the luna park! to stick to the promise we wouldn’t let each other buy any thing.. and happily stepped out of numerous shops with new bags swinging from our wrists!!
We went up the Melbourne tower.. it was amazing 60 floors high and looked out over the whole city! There were binoculars where you could see right into other peoples windows, and the tops of buildings were like a world of there own, some with swimming pools, some with kids play areas, one with a trampoline… how dangerous!!!
After that we went for a stroll along the river and as the sun was setting over the skyline, we decided to head back. As we walked through the botanical gardens and posed with the many peculiar statues there, we heard some strange noise.. curiosity getting the better of us, we followed it and came to a massive out door arena .. it then clicked that we had come across the daft punk concert (aka music concert for those of the older generation!! 😉 it sounded amazing and as we stood outside listening, a group of people from our hostel walked past.. armed with beer and goon they in vited us to join them, so
big fairies!!!
woo.. look what we won on the coconut shy!! of course it would have been rude to say no!!! there were hundreds and hundreds of people outside the arena, the atmosphere was amazing (I’d like to say it was better than being inside, but that’s properly a lie!!!) anyway so we danced and partied outside, and there were flame throwers and it was all very exciting!!! Loads of people tried to jump over the fence… some got in, others got caught.. I have to admit we were tempted but knowing my luck, I’d be the one to get my top caught on the fence and be left dangling upside down.. guilty face for all to see!!
We left at about half 11 and stopped on the way home in the hostel opposite ours called ‘base’ where two of my friends from uni were staying, kate and becky.. it was surreal to see them out in oz! On Friday we met up with the girls again and had a day on the beach which was lovely!! That night was my last night and it was really sad.. we had a brilliant time tho, everyone came out and there was about 10 of us together, we went to La Roche
ozzie barbie!
me and couple of guys from work at an ozzie barbeque and then to Veluda.
The next morning me and gem packed up our cases and got ready to leave, as expected.. it was a rush.. luckily I had done my packing the day before but you know how it is with last minute bits and bobs!!
The airport bus came to pick us up at 12 o clock, and the girls and lads came to the front to wave us off.. I left them all a little chocolate santa and note and im sure I saw a few tears..!! it was weird saying goodbye to everyone, Martine pretended she was sad but I think she was secretly glad as im sure room 2 will be a lot tidier in my absence!! ;-)
