Day 1 – June 30th - Black Rock to Moorook (770 km) We left Melbourne at 8:20 am, after organizing 13 Champion Street for our house guests. It was a sunny but windy winter’s day as we drove along the Port Phillip Bay, leaving our Bayside bubble behind. It was our first really long journey in the Prado and it proved to be a very comfortable ride. We were loaded up with the camper trailer, roof box and fully laden boot. The car felt very heavy. Driving from Melbourne to Bendigo we hit a low temperature of 8 degrees and some rain, but by the time we made our lunch stop at a place called Tempy the sun was shining again. The roads were surprisingly quiet and just one hour out of Melbourne you ... read more

Well, here we are, sitting on our comfy sofas for the last time in 9 weeks (watching a highlights of the Italy-Germany football match). Pretty exhausted after weeks of preparation for the trip, but excited about finally taking off on our big adventure tomorrow. The trailer is packed and sporting new upgraded wiring into the batteries (a DIY job so we are hoping we did it properly...) Will we leave before 8am as planned? How long will it be before the kids start asking "are we there yet?". What time will we be there? Where exactly is "there"? For tomorrow, "there" is Loxton, a small town on the Murray river just over the border in South Australia. The aim is to get there before dark so we can erect the camper trailer in the light. But ... read more

It's hard to believe that in two weeks time we will have spent our first night on the road. Time is whizzing by very quickly until we leave. Hopefully our 9 weeks on the road will go much slower... The trailer brakes got a test drive during last weekend's camping trip to Cumberland River on the Great Ocean Road. But the Prado missed out on getting properly muddy because the 4WD tracks in the Otways were closed :-( Mulled wine and lattes went down very well in the cold conditions. Uggs passed the winter camping test and didn't let a drop of water/mud in and kept my feet sooo toasty! And the superduper mattress in the camper trailer will prove to be one of the best buys ever. I can't see myself jumping out of bed ... read more

G'day one and all, How ya going? Hope you are all well. My last blog entry was from a train in the middle of nowhere practically. So what I didn't get to write in that entry was that the train journey just went from bad to worse!! I mentioned the screaming kids.... they actually managed to scream for the entire journey - not only that, the train kept breaking down!!!! It must have been just after i published my blog that the first breakdown occurred. Some fuses blew for the engine cooling system but we were assure that the, and I quote, 'Clever drivers have managed to solve the problem and we're on our way!' Well all that sounds good but when the initial breakdown is at a station and further overheating problems occurred in the ... read more

Ok so after my trip to Sydney I spent most of my time applying for jobs, having an interview or two, riding horses, seeing church friends as well as a few meals/trips out with Pili and Simon. Additionally I started some volunteer work through church, Friday mornings I help out a playgroup with 2 disabled twins and Thursday evenings I also go into the city and give out free pancakes. Its a nice community act and hopefully shows all Christians are not judgmental and homophobic, which apparently is the general perception! It's also pretty fun and good for getting to know people! Labour Day-8th March we had a family day out to Marysville to see some waterfalls. Me and SJ had been last time we were in Oz but this time we couldn't actually get to ... read more

Thurs 6th Dec: It was a really difficult day for me today. The day of Auntie Audrey's funeral and I wasn't there. The next best thing for me was to have my own private memorial service somewhere quiet. I was glad that I managed to get her favourite flowers and we all drove down to Black Rock, a lovely bay that had been recommended. Once down there I walked down to the beach and out onto the rocks. I reminded me a little of the rock pools in Porthleven. I don't know how long I spent sat there but the tide had started to come in so I had to move. I wasn't ready to leave so I moved to some other rocks and had so many happy memories flooding through my mind. Eventually the time ... read more
