We done a runner from our hostel in Mildura cos we owed them money!! Ha ha! Don't worry tho it was only $16 so i'm pretty sure we're not one of Australia's Most Wanted!! Anyway, we flew down to Melbourne from a tiny airport (maybe the same size as Dundee's!). We were meant to be getting the bus from Mildura to Melbourne bus as usual we left it too late and it was sold out so had to fly down on a rather small 74 seater plane!
We stayed with my family at their house in Endeavour Hills which is just outside Melbourne. We were all taken very good care of by my uncle Ian, aunty Alexandra and cousin Katrina and not forgetting Darren (Katrina's boyfriend). We are all looking very healthy after being fed some fantastic food! Saturday when we arrived Ross had to go to bed as he only had a few hours sleep the night before and i'm pretty sure he will still drunk actually. Me, Nic, Kat and Alexandra headed to the shops to get some grub in and obviously we had to stop at the bottle shop for the all important beer. Sunday was Nicola's
birthday so we were up nice and early cos we had a fun filled day ahead of us! First of all we headed to Ramsey Street to get the essential pictures (which i already have from when i was there in April). Stepping foot on the famous street made Nicola's day, maybe even her year!! After this we headed into Melbourne City to enjoy an AFL game. Essendon Bombers v Richmond Tigers. We were supporting the Bombers as this was my cousin's team. It was held at the MCG which is the cricket ground and seats 100,000 but think there was only 47,000 at the game which is still a lot of people. Unfortunately, the Bombers lost by 1 goal but that didn't spoil our day. It was fantastic to see it and believe me it was fantastic looking at all the nice players (isn't that the whole point of going to a sporting event!?!).
5.30am Monday morning my uncle woke us all up as we were setting off on an adventure along Great Ocean Road. He has recently bought a trailer camper tent thing and couldn't wait to use it. There are some amazing sites along the Road.
lighthousewho remembers Round the Twist? Well this is the lighthouse used in that
The cliffs and rocks have some great formations due to the high winds and powerful waves eroding them. It's easier just to look at the pictures rather than me describing them all. We stopped at Port Campbell and made this our base. This is where the fun began! Actually, we got the trailer tent set up no problem! It rained that night and as tents tend to do it leaked. My shoes were wet but i was dry! Next day we headed further along the road to Warnambool. We stopped at the whale nursery and to my amazement we actually saw two whales!! Mum and baby! They were enjoying themselves out in the ocean and were actually pretty close in to the shore. I did take some picutres but they won't mean anything to you cos they just look like little black blobs but i know what they are!!
Second night of camping we toasted some marshmallows which is a must when camping!! Up early next morning to pack the trailer tent away which took no time at all! We drove back through Ballarat which is home to the Gold Fields! Yes, gold! Didn't find any tho but we
weren't looking so that's ok.
Our last day in Melbourne we headed in to the City. We got on the tram to St Kilda beach and stopped off for a pint! We saw the Neighbours Tour bus down there and was getting excited cos we could see that they were all standing around talking to someone. Please let it be Karl Kennedy! As we got closer we soon realised that it was not him and only Irish Connor who i've already met at the trivia night back in December.
Can't thank my family enough for putting the three of us up. Loved staying with them, just a pity it couldn't have been longer.
