Ah, well I’ll explain the title of this blog later. Lisa’s parents , Ilva and Mike, had arrived in Australia at the beginning of December and after a suitable amount of sightseeing and exploring they’d settled down to more mundane pre-wedding tasks , like putting in a whole new bathroom ! and helping with the Air BnB units at the bottom of the garden. Lisa’s ‘little brother’ ( 6 ft 2inches) had arrived just that morning to stay for a week, and was already making arrangements to borrow a bike from friends and start the next morning with quite a few miles of biking. Nick’s daughter Jacintha, had given up her bedroom for me and little Evelyn was celebrating an extended birthday with eight birthday candles stuck in a chocolate bar. A busy household. Nick and ... read more

1 Week to go. Very close call 3 days ago. Heart attack (mild) whilst surfing at Torquay. Stented and all good. Given all clear to travel by specialist. Was very worried there at one stage. So much left to do now before Monday. Will keep you all posted.... read more

Torquay to Geelong Moby’s for breakfast on the Esplanade. A bit of an eccentric place but serving excellent food. Porridge was with quinoa and laced with all sorts of touches including mint. Very tasty I believe. A nice run out if town along the beech front before taking the Horseshoe bend road towards Geelong. Straight as a die apart from, of course the horseshoe bend. After taking left and going on Boundary Road towards Waurn Ponds Station we were offered a bit of adventure in the form of a post and wire fence and locked gate ahead. This was just after the point where I was overtaken by a kangaroo 15 months ago. Never to be deterred we took off our panniers and hoofed our bikes over the fence and trotted across the bypass onto the ... read more

For the past two years, since I packed my boxes and left my flat in Torquay, I haven’t had a fixed address. I haven’t stayed in one place for more than three months at a time. I’ve bounced around countless countries in Europe, living and working nomadically. Somehow, and unexpectedly, my life became a series of one-way tickets, not many returns, and a strong feeling of displacement. Yet, I’m preparing to do the same thing for the rest of the year. What I’ve learnt, amidst packing my bags and moving around so frequently, is that home is, without a doubt, a feeling. I have spent the summer back in Australia and am getting ready to embark on a one-way ticketed journey back to Europe in less than a month. There were many reasons I wanted to ... read more

Geo: -38.1473, 144.361We slept soundly so got up later than planned, although could have laid in for longer! Had a continental breakfast which included a blend of orange and grapefruit juice from fruit picked from C& Ds garden, plum and kumquat jam (from garden) and bread with cold meat. Left Lara at midday for the Great Ocean road. Spectacular scenery, rolling surf and windy empty roads. Stopped at Erskine waterfall at Lorne (pretty bay) then Kennet River to take photo of cockatoos, parrots and koalas in wild. Arrived at Apollo Bay and checked in to Coastal motel for two nights.... read more

Halfway there! So over easter break I went to Sydney for three days and I had a lot of fun! I met up with my friend Katie and her friend Mitch. It was really easy to get to my hotel except for the fact that I got lost. Stupid apple maps. The first day we just went shopping I never got anything but Katie bought stuff for her unit function because she was going to be a mathlete. We also went on a ferry and saw the harbor. I then went to my hotel to change my outfit because we were going back to their hotel for free drinks. Because their hotel was so nice, they had happy hour (well it was two hours). You got free drinks and food and it was on like the ... read more

So in the week leading up to break Ellen DeGeneres was in Australia! She went to Sydney for a few days and then she went to Melbourne for two. I really wanted to go see her in Melbourne but no one would come with me :( I was gunna go by myself but I never woke up for the bus, I slept right through 2 alarms! it was sad but I followed Ellen on Twitter and she tweeted about how there were 5000 people there.! That was way too many for me anyway but I would have loved to see her in person! Instead I spent the day working on my Tetris costume for the unit function later that night. We were split into groups and each group had to have a costume and a game ... read more

So because of my late night (early morning technically) on Wednesday/Thursday, I actually didn't make it to my class on Thursday. I had planned on it originally, but I didn't set my alarm and I woke up at 1105 and the bus left at 1115 and that just wasn't happening. So I practically did nothing all Thursday and Friday. I'm finding that I'm super bored. Classes at home actually have homework and such whereas these don't we just have assessments and when they aren't due soon, I have no motivation to do them that far ahead of time but I'm working on it because they are worth so much of my grade. Plus only having four classes (2 online which is just awful) and no clubs to go to or agendas to write I find that ... read more

SO! I've totally forgotten to mention a few things. First off, me Monique, Josh Katie and Julia all went to this 24 hour cafe at like 2 am one morning because we were all super bored and didn't want to go to bed! Welcome to college haha. Poor Josh was sooo tired but he came anyway. We had a lot of fun and the owners probably thought we were so drunk but we were all completely sober, just overly tired, so super loud. I had a fabulous thickshake (milkshake)which was strawberry falvoured. Everyone else got food, but I wasn't that hungry and I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep if I had that much food in my stomach. Cold Rock is basically exactly like Cold Stone and one of the clubs that I joined gives ... read more
