Corryong Cup - Day 6

I had promised to give you an update on Thursday's results. So here they are: Steven Crosby won the day, followed by Shane Duncan and Rohan Holtkamp. In the Floater class, Alan Bond won the day, followed by Rob Larkin and Brad Elliot. I came ninth that day.

On Friday, we flew the same task as on Thursday. Open class to Greg Greg, Cudgewa, and Corryong airstrip, Floater class to Towong and Corryong airstrip. Conditions were a lot different from the preceding days. We had a very light wind at launch that did not pick up like the days before. Nobody really wanted to launch early. But we had a famous „wind tech“ that day: Olli Barthelmes (for those of you who don't know him: He's on the German National Team and he was World Champion a couple of years ago) had flown to Corryong from Bright the day before, so he launched first, not sure yet whether he would fly back home or stay around the area. Finally, we started getting off the hill. I got very low right after launch and thought I'd bomb out straight away, but then I found a thermal that carried me up. Thermals were a bit strange that day though. It was really hard to find the core, and sometimes it was more bubbles than anything else. I got low two more times, before the first turnpoint and again on my way to goal. Still, I managed to find a thermal and find my way up again. Unfortunately, I was not high enough to make it all the way to goal, but landed about 1.5 km short. I left my glider in the paddock I had landed in and walked to goal. Lots of people were in. Nik made it as well - she has only been flying for a year, and she was really happy and had that big smile in her face. Olli had flown a 100 km triangle...

Again, I don't have any results yet. But I'll give you an update soon.

Zuerst mal kommen die versprochenen Ergebnisse vom Donnerstag: In der Open Class hat Steven Crosby gewonnen, gefolgt von Shane Duncan und Rohan Holtkamp (der, wohlgemerkt, einen Turmdrachen fliegt!). Die Floater Class gewann Alan Bond, gefolgt von Rob Larkin und Brad Elliot. Ich wurde an dem Tag Neunte.

Am Freitag flogen wir dieselbe Aufgabe wie am Donnerstag, die Open Class also nach Greg Greg und Cudgewa und dann zur Corryong Airstrip, die Floater Class nach Towong und dann ebenfalls zur Corryong Airstrip. Die Bedingungen waren ganz anders als an den vorigen Tagen. Am Start wehte ein leichter Wind, und keiner mochte so recht starten. Die Tage vorher hatte es immer direkt nach dem Briefing eine lange Schlange von Startwilligen gegeben, weil alle befürchteten, wegen des zunehmenden Windes nicht mehr wegzukommen. Dafür hatten wir einen besonderen „Winddummy“: Olli Barthelmes (für die, die ihn nicht kennen: Er fliegt im deutschen Nationalteam und war vor einigen Jahren Weltmeister) war am Vortag aus Bright nach Corryong geflogen und startete nun als erster, noch nicht sicher, ob er wieder nach Hause oder nur in der Gegend ein bisschen spazierenfliegen wollte. Nach und nach machten auch wir anderen uns auf den Weg. Ich kam direkt nach dem Start so tief, dass ich dachte, ich müsse landen. Aber ich erwischte einen Bart, der mich wieder nach oben trug. Die Thermik war an dem Tag sehr zerrissen und seltsam, manchmal war es unmöglich, den Kern eines Bartes zu finden, manchmal waren es auch nur einige Blubberblasen, die hochkamen. Wie auch immer, ich kam noch zweimal sehr tief und arbeitete mich jedes Mal wieder nach oben. Ins Ziel reichte es mir leider nicht so ganz. Ich landetet etwa 1,5 km davor. Ansonsten schafften es gestern aber sehr viele Piloten ins Ziel. Auch Nik aus meinem Team, die gerade mal ein Jahr fliegt, kam an - mit einem riesigen Grinsen im Gesicht! Olli ist übrigens ein 100-km-Dreieck geflogen...

Ergebnisse habe ich noch keine, die folgen aber, sowie ich sie habe.
