Cradle Mountain + "Mordor"

Our tour of Tassie (Tasmania) follows heading towards the South-Est. Next stop is the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park. Highlight of the area is the Overland Track, a beautiful hike between lakes and mountains which takes 5 or 6 days depending on your hiking skills (mine are almost not existing…). Obviously it is not for me! Also my fellow Nick agrees to skip it.
The program will be "just" two hikes: an easy one around the Dove Lake and a more challenging one around the Crater Lake (we were also climbing the Cradle Mountain, which was not included in the initial plan!). The views were really nice and we have been very lucky with the weather!
The first day was sunny, whilst the second was cloudy a circumstance which proved quite useful during climbing. We saw also a snake, obviously very poisonous! We were extremely frightened!
At the hostel we met a very nice Japanese guy, Satoru that will appear again in the next future

After leaving the national park we were extremely close to have a serious accident with a tourist that was driving the wrong way around! Luckily there was enough space to avoid him!
After spending the night in Queenstown (renamed MORDOR by some locals) we spent the next day travelling to Hobart. The weather was similar to one you would have in a typical English summer day (light showers…) and was not really special.
We went through the Franklin-Gordon national park, an immense wild area cut just by a little freeway (like from Wurenlingen to PSI…). The scenery was really beautiful and we stopped to see the Nelson Falls, nothing exciting they might be better after spring when more water is supposed to be there!
There was also the possibility to observe Platypus in the river there, but they are usually quite shy and we could not see any of them L

Il giro della Tasmania prosegue verso sud-est.
Questa tappa il Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park.
Pezzo forte della zona e' l' Overland Track, sentiero tra laghi e monti da percorrersi in 5-6 giorni (zaino in spalla) tra monti e laghi. Mi ci vedete a me a fare queste cose? Ovviamente no!
Abbiamo dunque deciso (anche Nick era pienamente d'accordo) di limitarci a due passeggiate giornaliere:
La prima intorno al lago Dove (abbastanza facile) e la seconda accanto attorno al Crater Lake (piu' impegnativa visto che ci abbiamo aggiunto la scalata del Cradle Mountain 1545m, psrtenza da 900m ).
Scenari bellissimi e molta fortuna col tempo.
La prima giornata e' stata soleggiata la seconda un po' meno, ma la temperatura fresca e' stata d'aiuto nella scalata.
Abbiamo anche visto un serpente, ovviamente velenoso, mentre passeggiavamo. Inutile dire che ci si e' gelato il sangue nelle vene!
All'ostello abbiamo conosciuto un ragazzo giapponese, Satoru, che riapparira' piu' tardi nelle mie cronache...
Dopo aver abbandonato il parco nazionale e aver rischiato di fare un frontale con un turista sbucato da una curva allegramente CONTROMANO abbiamo fatto rotta verso sud.
Pernottiamo in una citta' (piu' piccola di Fregene...) dall'altisonante nome di Queenstown.
Nel cartello stradale che annuncia al turista l'ingresso in citta' qualche burlone ha aggiunto il sopranome di "MORDOR" (chi non ha visto il signore degli anelli?).
Infatti la citta' si rivela una schifezza!
Comunque e' tardi e vista la stanchezza cerchiamo un alloggio.
La scelta cade tra notte in roulotte fornita dal campeggio locale o in un motel da telefilm amenricano (dove uccidono sempre qualcuno...). La scelta finale ricade sul motel. Che dire? Siamo sopravvissuti.
Il giorno successivo ci dirigiamo verso Hobart. Il tempo tipico di una giornata estiva inglese (lo dice anche Nick!), pioggierellina insomma, non ne fa una giornata da ricordare. E' stato comunque bello attraversare un altro parco naturale (Franklin-Gordon per la cronaca). Una regione vastissima attraversata solo da un'autostrada (considerate che la Salaria e' piu' larga!) con vegetazione fittissima ed incontaminata!
