Monday 31st – today we were heading back to the coast. We left Mount Gambier fairly early and had a good journey as the roads were quite quiet. We had thought of staying a night or two at the little coastal town of Beachport but it didn’t seem far enough along our journey west to justify stopping. We still wanted to see the town so made the short diversion from the main highway and parked up on the grass next to the Information Centre where of course we chatted to a couple of charming and helpful ladies. Armed with a map of the area we strolled to the front by the jetty which is very long – 772 metres in fact. It started out being 1220 metres in length but the end part was never very ... read more

30 03 2010-03-31 Still on the great ocean drive. Start Warnambool and finish at Robe. Well we got off after a light breakfast and went to Port fairy then along to Portland for a stop and a coffee. Saw about 6 trikes all powered by VW engines and took some photos on the way. To be honest you were spoilt for choice with the views so we attempted to get a feel of it as we drove along with the sea views on our left. We went via Mount Gambier and were held up by flocks of sheep along the way. Eventually when I was all done in we got to Robe a small place which once again had its share of shipwrecks. The choice of accomadation was sparse so we opted for a 2 bedroom ... read more

We are now about 300km south of adelaide at a small seaside town called Robe. We are here until thursday then move to adelaide were we will fly out Sunday to Perth and a few weeks with Pauline and Max. Since our last update we have spent 2 weeks travelling the great ocean road with a slight diversion into the Otway national park for a few days. We are still talking about our amazing time at Kennet River with the koalas who every day we were there put on a different display for us. They were so active it was incredible and we took lots of film and pictures. After Kennet river we stayed at Port Campbell and Portland and saw all the sights of the area like the 12 Apostles and the gorge at Loch ... read more

Day 263 - Coorong National Park to Little Dip Conservation Park I’m intrigued this morning to find that now we’re actually camped at the Coorong I’m not sure of our next move! It’s not one of those places which is obvious in terms of exploration, especially if you haven’t got a boat. I figured we’d just have a bit of a drive through the area and check out a couple of the lookouts along the route, so that’s pretty much what we did. The weather has definitely toned itself down and there’s a positive chill in the air. We packed up the caravan this morning and headed back down the dirt track to the sealed road and just enjoyed the scenery as we drive through. We’re due to meet up with Grant, Anna and the girls ... read more

Tonight we are camped just outside of Robe in SA. I can't say what its like yet, as we won't go there till tomorrow, I'll keep you posted. Well where was I up to, I think my last blog was from Halls Gap which was really beautiful. We went on a few walks to see some waterfalls, which was great as they haven't run in awhile, but most of western Victoria seems to have been getting regular rain lately, just not enough to fill dams yet. We went to Boroka look out and to the car park up top of Mount William but as seen in the picture the view was only fog and low clouds, so we didn't get to see the spectacular views promised in the brochure! Oh well just means we will have ... read more

We had our first taste of what life at Montefiore Homes might be like in Robe. Grey nomads surrounded us in a very popular caravan park with gorgeous views of the sea (and other caravans). Robe is the perfect place to mount your bikes and explore the old world streets and other landmarks such as the obelisk, memorials and ice cream shops. Happy hour was at 4.30 back at the caravan park and by 8pm all were inside except our boys who partied till late. It was shower time for me and Sam decided that it was time for his daily ablution so off we went to the Ladies (“Just call me Kylie” for all of you Alison Lester fans). A few cubicles were taken but there was one available for me and plenty for Sam. ... read more

Entry by Jules Sunday 21/12/08 We left Robe bright and early on Sunday morning as we knew we had plenty of sights to see that day, en route to the start of the Great Ocean Road. One sight I have been hoping on encountering all the trip is a Wombat and we did manage to see one beside the road out of Robe. No, it wasn't road kill, but it wasn't alive either; just a road sign unfortunately. As wombats are nocturnal it was unlikely that I would get to see one in the wild. We made a brief stop at Beachport, a lovely seaside town with an extremely long pier. We strolled along to the end and back again before chatting to a local fishermen about his catch so far that day; he was after ... read more
