A family of ducks enjoying the plank. Some hopped off graciously whilst others crash landed into the water.
Paddling around. Is that really only one family?

Hi travel lovers. Well there is no surprise, we have moved on yet again and after some brief stops at some small towns like Kingston S.E. and Salt Creek, Tailem Bend and Meningie we have now set up camp at Murray Bridge for a few days and have begun exploring the town and surrounding district. The Caravan Park we are in is a great spot right on the Murray River and it just so happened, while we were going on a Paddle Boat ride yesterday it went past our park and we had a good look at it from the boat. Great park and not far from the city etc. The paddle boat ride was also great, including the lovely meal and the scenery along the Murray. I must say there isn't a lot to see ... read more

Leaving Mt Gambier we continued our journey through the limestone coast, through small towns like Millicent who's identity grew when pine plantations were established in the ranges back in the late 1800,s. needless to say pulp and paper mill industries led to a population boom in the late 60,s. and Kimberley-Clark remains the largest employer in the district. Driving through the town it is signposted to visit the Woakwine range wind farm tourist drive, the largest wind farm development in the southern hemisphere, we decided against this and continued on our journey. We stopped off at Southend, which is located on the Rivoli Bay, and is the gateway to Canunda National Park, mum was born in Southend in Scotland and we thought it would be nice to visit. similar scenery but caravan park very busy and ... read more

After a very warm night we set of to explore the local area. We rode straight up to Mannum along some beautiful roads right along the river. The scenery looked incredibly dry but the fields irrigated with Murray water looked green and lush. Its been a real surprise to us on this trip to see how far the water is pumped from the river to supply water to communities. Often we will be riding along a road and there would be a pipe 1 metre in diameter following the road or cutting across the land in the distance, simply incredible. We had a good look at the tourist info/museum at Mannum, well worth the time spent there. Walkers Flat was our next stop. A quaint little village and not a banjo in sight, but I did ... read more

We were surprised by the absence of flies when we arrived at our B&B at the Spring Wood horse farm until I saw the silver thread of spider’s webs cast with the wind between two bushes. Yes I’m sure there were lots of happy fat spiders living in the foliage around our very comfortable flat. We stayed five days enjoying the peace interrupted by the occasional neighing of horse, quacking of geese, cock-a-doodle-doo of the roosters, screeching of parrots and the occasional noise of the trainers galloping their horses in the nearby field. The only problem was the Drake liked to herd his female gooses in front of our sliding glass door where they sat for most of the day leaving their goose poo. It wasn’t a problem if you were careful where you stepped. The ... read more

Well we didn’t end up staying in William Creek because the road was in good nick & we go out there at about 9.30am. Instead we buggered off down to Lake Eyre on the worst 62km of National Park road that graces this country. Luckily the view was fantastic when we eventually arrived. The size of this lake is unbelievable. There is no way you can see from one side to the other. We got some good pics & had lunch among the sticky flies & sea gulls (not an actual sea, you stupid sea gulls...). That night we stayed at a place called Coward Springs. It used to be a stop for the Ghan Railway & had a pub & everything going on. Now the only thing left is a couple of restored buildings, that ... read more

We are officially on our way home now. Tonight we are staying at Murray Bridge in South Australia after a big drive down from Roxby Downs, which is a mining town where they mine Copper, Uranium, Gold & Silver. Our Dad’s cousin Leah lives there. We went to a small Opal mining town called Andamooka for lunch on Sunday with Leah, her husband Scott & their son Brody. He is 15 months old. On Friday night we stayed at Coward Springs. It used to be a station on the Ghan Railway but now it is a campground with a natural spa that we got in with Dad. The water comes up from an underground bore & is really warm. On Wednesday & Thursday night we stayed at Coober Pedy. This is an old Opal mining town ... read more

Murray Bridge Spider and his wife kindly put me up in their house for the night of the 23rd and 24th Jan prior to us heading up to Broken Hill. The Murray river is currently filling up with the flood waters (in Queensland and Victoria) and will suffer flooding in due course. Some of the riverside 'shacks' have already been vacated.... read more
