departing adelaide
all aboard after a dash for the plane! I have finally made the move! And with no job to go to on Monday morning, and a house with painting and sanding jobs done, what else is a girl to do but move to the sticks of South Australia.
The flights on the Sunday went almost seamlessly, with a generous 2 hour connection at Sydney airport to get from international to domestic terminals. Air NZ have also pimped their service quite considerably so it is now screens on the seat in front of you and personal DVD's / audio/ on demand......the choices so vast, but had to settle with Flight of the Conchords (President of NZ episode), Are you being served (Greek wedding episode) and a bit of mellow lounge music. Not to mention offerring a free diagnosis to flight attendant whom had a bad back! Maybe I need not move to Australia but offer in flight physiotherapy services to the injured??
The connection from Sydney to Adelaide was hairier than planned, being over 1 hour late leaving and hence late arriving...this left me with 5 minutes to spare for a check in to REX airlines for the Mt gambietr connection (in south eastern SA). I hoofed it
from the airplane to the check in desk without baggage and informed them of my late connection. After collecting luggage from the carousel, back up the stairs to check in (how generous they did not charge extra for the 0.7kg overweight I was!) and then security screening before running to the last gate in the terminal, gate 10 I was finally there. This was not without having 'Miss Anne Newton, please make your way imediately to Gate 10 as the aircraft is ready for departure' being shouted over the intercom. Well there is a first time for everything, and at least it was not me being late myself!! After 1 hour we arrived and I was greeted by the manager of comunity health. they were very kind in taking me for a whip around the main drag, and giving me some settling in things like lean beef mince, margarine, bread, pasta and sauce in the fridge for my arrival. My reciprocated Kiwi pen was not necessary she said.
Other first impressions...people are so helpful, saying 'ello love' in the main street, 'hows it going?' etc. When I swent exploring the lesss mokey suburbs last night some guy said that
and I interpreted it as 'whe're you going/' so said woolworths to which he did not reply...well I guess I am woothworths after all?????
The flat is perfectly adequate now that the heat bank is working and I have gotten used to the smokey mill sounding mill-like in the background, and the trucks using it as a main bypass for the spread out city. Getting lots of miles in on foot, and looking into the bike and gym or pool situation steadily. Cannot rush these things, I will run out of sightseeing otherwise! We have a long weekend coming up and it looks like it may be a local one.....$1000 o.w to Coober Pedy or Broken Hill just is ridiculous! I got measured today for a Swine Flu mask and the nurse was a great informant and advocate of inland Victoria and Coober Pedy for the authentic Aussie outback break. Another weekend maybe....
Till next time, love....
