Another day of relaxation, gee tough! We Visited the Zoo to check out the Panda bears and other animals at the Zoo. As Zoo’s go, it is ok, good to view the Panda’s, but our choice of Zoos, would be Australia Zoo (Steve Irwin) where the animals appear to have more than adequate space to at least feel free and be closer to nature. Animal welfare definately a priority and in good condition at this Zoo. From the Zoo we headed to Port Adelaide, advertized as, Market day as well as a sea horse farm, we felt would be interesting. We headed out to the Port and had to do a search for a suitable food place. Did a walk of the markets that are in an old wharehouse. A good wander through these with the ... read more

The plans for the day were, head to Glenelg and catch the tram into the city, visit the markets, check out some of the tourist sights around the city. The hint we received from the tram conductor yesterday helped us find parking near the tram stop at Brighton Road, and the tram came along shortly after we parked. We hopped on and as we were attempting to sort out how to pay for the trip, a friendly local explained the conductor would find us. We took a seat and he was correct, the conductor came along and asked if anyone required tickets, having read online the cost, Rick only had to show his seniors card, this gives him free trips on the weekends, as well as between 9:03 & 3pm Weekdays. The card shown, appeared to ... read more

A slower beginning, but even with no long distance nor hurry to get away, having mastered the pack up and hook up routine, it all goes fairly smoothly, so we were in fact on the road by around ten past nine am. The drive across to Adelaide was very easy, and before long we were navigating our way through the city of Adelaide, The GPS is a wonderful little tool to assist travellers and certainly removes the stress of new city’s or roads previously unknown to the adventurous. We found the Big4 park at West Beach and booked in, we are ,members of this chain and they are affiliated with KOA that we experienced during our journey through USA/Canada, (gee that is now close to 3 years ago!) The Big4 was spacious with great sites and ... read more

March 3rd 2011

After having had a wonderful week in New Zealand with Ben's parents, we were sad to leave their company and the wonderful country that is New Zealand. However, when we arrived at Adelaide airport, we were quickly swept away by our Aussie host, Sarah (Ben's former colleague from Charles Russell) who told us in the car on the way back to her parents' house (where we were staying complete with swimming pool and tennis court... who says travelling needs to be hard work?!) that she had meticulously planned our next 5 days... what she did not tell us was that she had also factored in a 6am run with her running club! Sarah is one of the most enthusiastic people I have ever met and, together with her husband Mark and her family, encouraged us to ... read more

Absolutely loved the city of Adelaide. The beautiful art gallery, Australian gallery, the shops along the central outside mall, the beautiful gardens. The fringe festivale was on at the same time. Would love to go back here. Met a girl from a previous day tour. Beautiful buildings as well. Loved my big apartment type hotel, obtained due to my error in booking the week following, but the hotel staff were good enough to call the booking agent and arrange for another upgraded hotel room on a busy night. Loved it. Also shown is the return to Sydney.... read more

Everything went smoothly while leaving bali, heck the flight was even 2hours shorter than we thought. We set up a couchsurfing date with a girl who said she likes zombie movies and beer on her host profile. We had instructions on where to meet and a phone number to call but I messed up with the payphone because dialing is different in every country and i can be useless sometimes. Luckily even though my call didn't work our gracious host swung by the airport at a time she thought we would be through customs and fully in the country. Thankfully all worked out and soon we were surfing our first couch... well floor actually but we still ahd a matress. It happens our host Amanda lived in Canada 2 years and has toured around the states ... read more

Saturday Feb 26, 2011 The Great Bight of Australia Latitude 35 degrees 25 minutes’ south- Longitude 129 degrees 14 minutes' east Cruising through the Great Southern Ocean can be an ordeal that most mariners want to avoid. We have heard the stories from the local sailors that this stretch of water has a very unique sub-sea bottom configuration that makes for unpredictable conditions and treacherous cruising. I guess it would make our story more dramatic to say that we have pounded our way across the southern part of Australia. In truth, however, once we passed Tasmania and continued west the seas have been mostly in our favor. The run NW into Adelaide was before the wind and our arrival was early, uneventful and stress free. The welcome we received from the people of South Australia was ... read more

We then started to drive towards Adelaide but we were not able to make it all the way in one go. We therefore stopped off at Murray Bridge, a town formed around the first bridge to span the Murray River. The next day started with what will hopefully turn out to be the most serious (really hoping so) and most costly (again really hoping so) tragedy of the entire trip. Not aided by the extremely inventive Australians who thought it would be really clever to name both the diesel and the unleaded petrol “Vortex” we managed to fill up our diesel tank with petrol. Fortunately Steph noticed when we went to pay. After contacting a local mechanic we were able to get the tank drained and be on our way, all the quicker due to our ... read more
