Hello everyone,
This week we indulged in one of Adelaide's traditions - the Christmas pageant!
You can learn more about our pageant
here.
Pageant day starts the Christmas season for many Adelaideans - families go home and set up Christmas trees and decorate houses in readiness for Christmas day.
Dan and I went with Caroline, Michael and Joseph. We arrived a wee bit late (only 10 minutes before it started) and needed to cross the road to meet Daniel and Danielle - which was quite an effort! Pageant veterans have now informed us that 8.30 - 9am is a better time to secure a position for the 10am show - you live and learn.
A kind gentleman let Dan up the front so he could have a good view - and take a few photographs - Michael, Danielle and I stayed 10 rows back, listening to the music and watching the tallest of the floats go by.
Dan thought the best part of the pageant were the bagpipe players, but when we nailed him down to his 'favourite float' it was the life saver one - which had a dancing sea horse, a boat with an
octopus riding on the front and a life saver in a boat at the back. He said the music with this float was very good.
On Sunday we had a visit from Jane and Max. We did lizard hunting, tree felling, digging, rock sorting and finger-print detection during the visit and finished with a local bike ride. We then joined Helen at her home for a delicious lunch with her children (Matthew, David and Chris), some friends from work - Monica and Sue, and Sue's husband Bill and the lovely Lisa (Chris' partner). It was a glorious afternoon indeed!
Dan says ....
It was Mum's first time as a Mum at the pagent, and it was Oma's first time missing out on the pageant as a grand parent. There were lots of bands that I liked dancing to - especially the bagpipe bands! My favourite floats had rock music.
At Helen's it was nice. We were the first one's there. She had this cookie jar that was shaped like a lion and when you lifted the lid it said 'Get your hands out of my cookie jar ROOOOAAARRRR!!!' Helen caught me every time I tried to sneak a cookie.
I played 'squash the grapefruit' in the backyard (to minimise the number of grapefruits) and I also played Lord of the Rings on the computer. The food was really good.
A joke:

Aren't you glad that Gran's not here any more?
Michael and JosephThe float in the background is Nipper - one of two pony-related staples in the pageant - Nipper and Nimble. Competitions are run to be the child that rides these horses in the pageant each year.
Mini monsterThis monster was small compared to the giant one that sits on the float
ClownThe pageant is full of clowns and people in costume that wander around having fun

Thanks for your comment. I still have nightmares about your cookie jar. Dan
