Gyoooza!
They were a hit! I'm Home...but not for long! Well it has been just over two months since I have returned home from my one year in Japan, but feels like I have been home for six! I have been so busy since returning, got a new job, holidayed in Melbourne, done a lot of Adelaide sightseeing, visited Danielle in the country for a weekend, and decided to return to Japan for another year!
Christmas on a Farm Christmas Day, the day after I returned, was spent with my family at my Uncles house. He has a huge property with dams, lots of fruit trees and many animals...including a sly red bellied black snake which literally made me freeze in my tracks!
Tadaima Party Tadaima in Japanese means "im home" and is what Amy and I use to say as we entered the mansion. We also use to hear the kids in the neighbourhood say it as they returned home. Amy had surprised her family by coming home for Christmas and was great that they could all make it to my coming home party! I also had some surprise guests, my uncle and auntie from Melbourne who flew down for the occasion!! Mum
made our favourite late night Japanese snack, gyoza, which were a big hit, even though the chopsticks weren't working so well for some people. We also had teriyaki chicken skewers, onigiri (rice balls) and Amy and I made our favourite festival food...yakisoba! In true Japanese style we ended the night with a karaoke session and tried to remember all our para para dance moves! Amy and her parents had breakfast at our house the next morning, before we farewelled Amy at the airport, as she is still working in Japan until the end of March.
Being A Tourist In My Own City I think I have returned from Japan, more Japanese than I thought…I have been acting like a tourist in Adelaide taking my camera everywhere I go!
My brother and I took a picnic to some Japanese gardens in the city, which I never even knew existed! We also went to the Adelaide zoo one day, a place I had not visited for about 10 years, I was quite impressed!
I really enjoyed going to the central markets and checking out the Asian supermarket and also a Japanese shop called Little Tokyo, where I bought proper
green tea (not the Lipton crap)!
"Surprise! You're going to Melbourne!" Late one night, after a suss phone call from Melbourne, I received an email from my cousin in Melbourne, Christine, saying Surprise, you're going to Melbourne, be at the airport Thursday morning!! I was so excited, I couldn't believe it!
On my arrival in Melbourne, Christine picked me up and we went straight to the Australian Open Tennis! It was a very hot day and we got to see two womens semi-finals! We also lined up at the Garnier tent to have our hair done for free and then receive a bag of free products, cool!
The other days in Melbourne, we spent relaxing in the spa, having babeques and going to the beach at Dromana. It was a great long weekend...Thanks Christine!!!
Sayonara...again! Well in less than 3 weeks I will be leaving sunny Adelaide, heading into cherry blossom season in Japan, followed by another summer!! I have had a great time catching up with everyone, I will miss you all, but remember I'll only ever be a phone call or email away!
I will also miss... the beach, hanging out at Glenelg, olives and
feta, family and friends, and my new favourite TV show, Heroes - I’m loving the hilarious Japanese guys and being able to understand some of the language!! (will definitely have to download new episodes)
However, I'm very much looking forward to going back to the crazy country of Japan where…I cant read or speak, traffic lights are horizontal, Mt Fuji rules my world, I sleep on the floor and I can’t go to a restaurant if it doesn’t have a picture menu!
