Travelling up to Cape York June to October 2012. Gav, Jude and Olivia (8yrs), jack (6 yrs), Luke (5yrs), Sylvia Mariette (Jude's mum) and Craig (Jude's dad). Gav and Jude are driving a Nissan patrol (Mups) and towing a Trak Shak camper trailer. Mum and Dad are driving a Pajero (stumpy) and towing a pioneer camper trailer. Throughout this blog I will refer to Craig and Sylvia Mariette as mum and dad.
We have two weeks to go (exactly 16 sleeps, 7 working days for me, 10 working days for Gav) but who's counting!! God it's hard to stay focused on what needs to be done at work. We are busy catching up with good friends and finishing off the last minute things that need to be done at home and to the car and trailer.
WHAT HAVE WE DONE TO THE CAR? For those of you interested recent mods done to the car include: draw system with fridge slide in the boot, winch, front diff lockers, side rails and rock Sliders, two spot lights installed on the rear of the roof rack, new tyres, new rear springs and spring supports. I think that's all, I don't really pay much attention that's more Gavs domain than mine!
WHAT HAVE WE PACKED? I hear you ask. I found it really difficult to know what to take considering we are on the road for three and a half months and we have limited room. My attitude is always; its easy to cool in the heat but impossible to warm up or stay dry in the cold and rain. Being on the road for this length of time, it is bound to rain at some point and the nights atleast will be cold at times. I am taking 6 pairs of shorts for the kids, 6 t shirts, 2 rash shirts, 12 pairs of undies, 2 pairs of PJs, 2 track suit pants and jumpers and one really good wet weather warm jacket. I figure we will need to wash every second week. Gav and I are pretty similar with what we are taking. We have also put in two towels each, one for the shower and one for the beach.
Also packed is the generator, chemical loo, chainsaw, lights, toolbox, camp ovens, gas bottles, kitchen supplies, fishing rods, First aid kit, kids DVDs, DS games, camera, video camera and of course beer and bourbon! We are trying to pack as little as possible, so we started with a really long list and we shrank it down from there. OMG hope we're not too heavy!
FOOD Between us we have four fridges so we are using one as a freezer and three as fridges. Mum and I are having a cooking day where we will make approx two weeks worth of meals and froze them. You know, the usual stuff spaghetti bolognaise, crumbed steak, meatballs, hamburger patties, diced chicken, diced beef, roast. We also froze extra supplies of meat. We are planning on always having approx two weeks of food with us as we are travelling around. There are always spots to stock up so I THINK we should be good (famous last words! Haha).
PLANS I included the picture of the map because it just gives a good idea of where we are going. We are aiming to see as much of both coasts of the Cape York peninsula region as possible. On our way back going into Normanton and Karumba and as far west as Bourketown. I'm still trying to convince Gav that seeing as though we are so close to the Northern Territory border we might as well just keep going! (ha ha). Wish we could!
Watch this space trip begins soon................
