Happy Birthday Lucy...
It was so great to be given a banner to put up for my birthday...especially when the background looked like this... Wow! I still can't believe that I celebrated my 19th birthday on Hamilton Island. I had a beautiful swim in the sea with my sister in law, the sea was so lovely and warm (you just had to be careful of the transparent jellyfish!) Unfortunately it rained quite a bit that day, but the moment we went onto the beach for our swim the sun actually came out from behind the clouds and then went back in when we did 😊 Beach, sun and stunning surroundings for my birthday, a combination I want to experience on many birthdays to come...
It was so great to be with my brother and sister in law on my birthday morning. I couldn't believe how many cards I got all the way over here in Australia! Thankyou so much everyone who sent me cards, presents, food and money 😊 Believe me, the money will go a long way and is very very much appreciated! I was so not expecting anything, so thankyou everyone, you all made me feel very happy indeed 😊 I got quite a lot of chocolate and sweets from people back home so I put up my Happy Birthday banner and
Just like at home...
I even got a little birthday cake amongst my fantastic cards and gifts...ah you don't realise how great it was to have things from home and be in such a beautiful location... balloons that someone gave me and made a little party platter on the coffee table, with my little minature birthday cake as well. Ahaaha I loved it so much! Oh yes, and my very own birthday video was soooo good! I loved seeing all my family and friends speaking to me with their birthday messages, it was such a wonderful thing to do (thankyou matthew) and made me feel closer to home for my birthday 😊
In the evening, we went out for an Italian for dinner and I had some wine, champagne and cocktails with my darling sister in law. My brother on the other hand was 'avin it large at airlie beach' with the wedding gang. The hotel drove us down to the restaurant at the marina in a little golf buggy. It is so strange on this island, it is just like one big complex and everyone drives about in buggies! I hired one overnight and got up nice and early in the morning to explore the island a bit and to find some beautiful views, my plan worked and the views were just wonderful...so many lush islands every degree you looked, surrounded by water oh so
My lovely brother and sister-in-law...
It was strange at first seeing them over here in Australia, but then it became the norm...had such a fantastic time being with them...see you guys again in 5 months... beautifully blue...
Before Hamilton Island I was in Sydney for a few nights, so I could meet with my brother and sister in law. It was very bizarre seeing them here in Australia, where I've been for the past 2 months! I took them on the ferry from Circular Quay to Manly where they could take in a great view of the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House (even though they later discovered their hotel room overlooked both of these!) On our return to Circular Quay I said goodbye and met with Minako (a friend from my Tasmania tour) It is so lovely to meet people a second time on your travels 😊 Unfortunately she was staying in one of the suburbs so had to get an early bus back, leaving me to experience Sydney night life solo. I went to the same $3 BBQ on the roof of my hostel, it felt weird as before I was with Louise who I travelled out here with and now it's just me! The night went well and I ended up making friends with some guys from Ireland and we went to the Scubar in the basement (again strange without Louise
Mmmm...wagamama...
My birthday eve with Namiko and Minako at Wagamama... there!) The crab racing was exactly the same, again making me laugh at how pathetic it is yet it is most definately the best night you can get at the Scubar...ahaha 😊
The day after I went and climbed the Harbour Bridge (feeling deprived of sleep, food and water-luckily you were secured to the bridge at all times with a belt...as I heard there are sharks in the water below!) I did this with my family and brother's mates (they are all here for a wedding on Hamilton Island). The view you got from the top was amazing and just the feeling of climbing the bridge too 😊 Quite a few people in our group were very scared, especially when trains went past and you had the traffic directly below you! I found that quite funny as I wasn't scared at all...
I finished my short time in Sydney with Namiko (another friend from Tasmania who by coincidence was in the same room as me at my hostel!) and Minako by going to Wagamama (my absoluuuuute favourite). I thought I was okay at using chopsticks, but my japanese friends of course made me realise how rubbish I really am at using them, so I resorted to using a fork for my ramen... Said goodbye (again) to Minako and ran back to the hostel through the pouring rain with Namiko, having one guy skid on the slippery pavement into me! We stayed up talking and then realised it was finally my birthday 😊 I even got a card and present from Namiko which was very sweet of her. Ahh this will be a birthday I will most certainly never forget...it has been the best...
