We arrived in Airlie Beach after a night bus which neither of us had very much sleep on so we were very tired :-( and then we had to wait around for four hours for our Whitsunday trip to start. There were only 17 people in our Whitsunday group 4of them were actually on our fraser island trip too and we shared a room with all of them. We had a big catermaran called 'Pride of Airlie' which was really cool. Instead of staying on the boat we were staying on an island resort which was crazy because it was literally just the 17 of us and a few staff. It was originally a large family resort and then was converted into a backpacker place mostly because it is quite run down. It was really fun ... read more

Didn't sleep very well. This often happens when I've had alcohol the night before, so I got up and did some errands rather than waste the morning in bed. We spent so much money yesterday by booking our sailing trip, coaches and flights that I'm now a whole week over budget. Chatted to Alley and Ashley back in the dorm about what a great night we'd had last night. They're lovely girls and I hope to meet them again if I come back to Oz later this year. It was too hot to sunbathe for long and we had an Introduction meeting for our sailing trip at 1.30. They went over the itinerary for the next few days and told us any rules they had on the boat. There were lots of familiar faces I recognised ... read more

Land Ahoy! We have sailed the Whitunday seas and now we are back on land - swaying back and forth! We set off from Airlie Marina - sailed to Black sland on the 1st night. Thesecond day we sailed to the outer barrier reef - Bait Reef - snorkelled on the reef - absolutely amazing - so many fish and millions of different corals - some sharks and turtles too! We set sail late afternoon again and headed to Hook Passage for the night. Yesterday we set sail to Hill Inlet and Whitehaven beach - breath taking - probably th most beautiful place ever! Pics to come soon. We swam on the beach too - although it was more like having a bath - with sting rays underneath - had to be careful! Last night we ... read more

10th July 2008 - Our Last Day of the Whitsundays We woke up early today, had breakfast and were then taken over to Langford Beach - a sand cay - for our last snorkel. The coral was probably just an inch below the surface off the shore and you arent supposed to touch the coral at all which was....um.....impossible!! We must have destroyed a lot of the Great Barrier Reef that day for which we are very sorry but it just couldnt be helped! I cut my knee on the way in and just after taking my flippers off I trod on a chunk of coral and cut my foot! Ouch! (plus I cut myself of an eskey all the way down the back of my leg at breakfast time) It just wasnt my day. ... read more

9th July - The Blender Effect After a great toilet demonstration yesterday: 1) fill the basin with water, 2) go to the toilet, 3) Blend, 4) Flush it, 5) Flush it, 6) Flush it again (so it doesnt come back to haunt you), we were all very careful to get it right. It's a long process! After thinking it might be the rocking motion of the ship that would keep us up at night it was nothing compared to the sound of 5 seperate toilets all over the ship being used throughout the night. We got up tired and praying for sunshine at 7.30am. Unfortunately the weather was only slightly better (no rain!), but not bad enough not to go snorkelling luckily. Our first spot was off Black Island in the morning. We got into ... read more

8th July - Licking Ants Bums at Whitehaven Beach, Whitsundays We got up at 7.30 am and headed to Gloria's Cafe to meet the crew and the other people we would be spending the next three days with! We were all given a small blue bag yesterday (apparently you can't take backpacks on the ship in case you spread bed bugs). We were pretty much just told to bring a bikini, a jumper, a toothbrush and deodrant. Stacey, the ship's Cook, gave us a brief introduction to the ship and then we all got on board. The ship is lovely. It was built in 1946 and was originally going to be used in the war but was turned into a lobster fishing boat by the ship builder as he thought it was too beautiful to ... read more

Arriving in Airlie Beach we arrived at our campsite just in time for the rain to begin. We decided to wait a bit before putting our tent up which paid off as it cleared up and we could sort it all out whilst staying dry! It wasn't quite the weather we were expecting from the Whitsunday Islands but we had faith it would blow over soon enough. That night we decided that since we still hadn't seen any Kangaroos we'd try and eat some! We slapped a few Roo kebabs 'on the barbie' and they were very tastey - not like chicken, as you'd expect, but like a tastey steak. During the night it rained... a lot. So before we took the plunge and booked up 3 days on an island in the middle of nowhere ... read more

This place is just stunningly beautiful!!! I have never seen beaches like them and there are loads of little islands. Never thought i would be too bothered for sailing but i loved it and can't wait to do the sae life thing again in Indonesia. The people on my boat were a great crew, hello guys by the way. Benny our deck lad caught us a decent size shark but it snapped the line, im sure it would of gone down nice with my goon. It was a nice relaxing 3 days on board and we didn't have a bad night out afterwards either!... read more
