Sunshine Coast Australia!
They don’t call it sunshine coast for no reason.. Its always sunny here.. and bluest of blue skies!!!
First stop Mooloolaba- We didn’t really plan to go here initially but the guy in peter pan travel told us that if we book into the hostel here than we can get 2 nights accommodation and entry to Australia Zoo for $99...Zoo entry alone is normally $70, so it’s a good deal. So an hour north of Brisbane.. And we get off, the hostel is so nice. There is an English girl working behind the the desk and is very helpful. There is free body boards, surfboards, kayaks, pool, tennis and free brekkie every morning- You cant go wrong really… It’s a really seaside town absolutely gorgeous. I have already fallen in love with the place! I say to Will why didn’t we do some fruit picking here the other backpackers were picking strawberries for $18 an hour.. I would love to do this. But there is a waiting list, and we are guaranteed jobs in Bowen. We went to the zoo on our second day. It was really cool, Steve Irwin Zoo. It was all dedicated to him.
We saw a lot of crocodiles, alligators, possums, kangaroos, dingoes, wallabies, cassowaries, komodo dragons, and all sorts of other birds. I enjoyed the zoo but it wasn’t as cool as San Diego Zoo in America, I think once you have been to the best Zoo in the world its hard to compare. Although this Zoo is all about Ozzie Animals.
The next day we learn how to surf-Really badly, I am useless! But it was fun all the same…We leave on the 3pm bus to Noosa, we only have one night here which I am pretty upset about but we booked our Fraser Island trip wrong so it will have to do!
Noosa-
A town a bit bigger than Mooloolaba, and very expensive place. All the rich people live here, along the gorgeous coast of white sand and metallic blue water. The main street is called Hastings street and this is where it all happens. Expensive louis vuitton shops, expensive restaurants and cafes. I like it here a lot though. We meet a really nice French girl and German guy in our hostel and hang out with them for the night chatting and drinking…We need to leave at 9am
to get the bus to Rainbow beach so we can leave on our fraser island self drive tour on Friday.
Arrive in Rainbow beach- which consists off a shop and a pub. In our dorm we start talking to another couple and we just click. They are from London and just got married both 24. We decide to ask if we can all go in the one group!
Fraser Island- We rented a 4X4 jeep for 3 days on the biggest sand island in the world. Our group is Me, Will, Matt, Kara, Christina, Michelle, Camilla and Owen the Israeli twat from surfers.. I cant believe that he is in our group, of all people! UGH!!
Day 1: Champagne Pools, we drive the whole way up the east of the island and get to the champagne pools at 3pm. Quick dip and we have to be back in the jeep and to our campground by sunset as the tide comes in and we can get stranded. We set up camp, and make dinner on our gas stove. Chicken stir-fry and rice. Then we drink our way into the night bouncing from one jeep to the next there
are 6 jeeps in our group from the hostel. We are not allowed to light a bonfire but one of the guys brought his firesticks so he keeps us entertained. The sunset is amazing and there is a full moon tonight which looks brilliant! Owen decided to leave our group and swap with an English guy who hated his group cause they were all French. So he came and joined us instead!!
Day 2- Lake Mc Kenzie
Picture postcard, absolutely gorgeous. It is a natural lake filled with tea tree oil. It feels gorgeous on your skin. I drove the 4wd today it was really cool to drive on the sand, although u have to be so careful stay clear from the water. A lot of people have crashed, rolled their jeeps in the water and smashed into other drivers. There is no road so you are driving on sand which is very un predictable!
Day 3: Lake Wabby
We had to be up and out o our camp by 7am according to the tides hi’s and low’s… we walked 3km today to get to Lake Wabby, it was huge sand dunes and a national park at the bottom
was the lake. It was green in colour and had natural tea tree oil in it too. There was also catfish that eat the dead skin off your feet and back if you lie in the water. I didn’t want to as the catfish I imagined were tiny…these were huge…yuck! We set back to our jeeps and we headed back for the mainland.
Such a fun weekend, with the best people.
Arrive back at 6pm and have dinner and drinks with our Fraser family.
