... and carried on truckin'
Since our last blog entry we have seen and done some amazing things. I suppose the best place to start would be the last place we ended... so where were we? Oh yes, how could we forget... Rockhampton... the Beef Capital of Austrailia. There we crossed from the temperate zone to the tropic zone of the Capricorn. We spent one night in Rockhampton and in the morning nice and early, we set off further north towards Airlie beach, driving along beautiful sugar cane fields as seen in our wonderful photos... the smell was amazing but we couldn't figure out a way to put that on the blog!
As it was Gemma's turn to drive and Craig's turn to pick the campsite we ended up on Conway beach, described as a tranquil retreat in one of Austrailia's proudest national reserve. When we got there it turned out to be a dump... literally a place where the dregs of society hide from normal people. The beach, which was about a mile out, was littered with warning signs about killer jellyfish... hurtful!
So Gemma now does the driving and the picking of the campsites!
So
after spending three seconds at Conway beach, we drove back to Airlie beach where the following day we went aboard "Camira" which is an Aboriginal word meaing into the wind. She was a massive 87 foot lilac catamaran which spoilt us to an amazing day out diving the reefs of the Whitsundays. Spectacular!
We then headed off to a little place called Townsville... the first place in Australia to raise the Australian flag in 1901 (see, an informative blog too!). We treated ourselves to a thrilling Imax experience called "Into the Deep". The next day we caught a ferry across rather choppy waters to the Amazing Magnetic Island. We had hoped to do some diving but the wind had churned up the sand so visability was at a low. Instead we rented a little car-thingie called a moke (a spiderman one!) and paced up and down the island with the wind in our hair. We would love to put on some photo's of it but we had to buy a underwater, disposable camera cause we thought we were going to do some diving.
After Townsville, we drove through Mission Beach but decided that it was only good enough
for toasted sandwiches so we pushed on through to Cairns.
We spent last night in Cairns but have come through to Port Douglas where we will spend the night, then drive to Mossman to see the rainforests.
We only have four days left with Clarence the Campervan so we want to use the remaining days on the road, clocking up the miles (kilometers)!
P.s. We forgot to mention that we cuddled a Koala and a Wombat (Kevin and Willimina respectivley) along the way
P.p.s We would LOVE to have some comments on our adventures!!!
