Kayaking at Sunset We had quite a chilled out morning, we checked our emails and uploaded some photos then had lunch before grabbing the free kayaks that the hostel provide. We were scared actually getting in the thing without it tipping as we sort of had to jump in off the jetty. But we managed to wedge the kayaks in some rocks before safely stepping in. Lucy had to get a man to come and help her and she got in after me. We kayaked around the river through Noosa and did a loop. The weather was gorgeous and the views were amazing. It was really nice to see Noosa from a completely different angle. The sun was setting over the river as we paddled around for a few hours. We called a man over ... read more

Watching the Surfers We got the free bus into Noosa town centre today. It seems to be quite a wealthy beach town, lots of restaurants and boutiques. We had a wander around town and watched the surfers. Although the beach was closed due to dangerous conditions - it is still raining and windy! There were hundreds of surfers....pretty cool watching them. We did a national park walk in the afternoon. Cooked fish and mash potato for dinner! Trying to be healthy. We also met Karen from London who is travelling a very similiar route to us (Hurrah! finally we are not the only ones heading South!). Lucy x ... read more

Goodbye Rainbow Beach *sob We said our goodbyes to Chris and Vince this morning - they are heading North so we wont be seeing them again! :-( We got on the Greyhound bus at 10am and arrived in Noosa just after lunch time. A courtesy bus picked us up and took us to our hostel 'Noosa Backpackers Resort'. We had heard good things about this hostel so had high hopes. I expect in summer it is lovely, but in winter wooden slates in the bedroom arent good....you couldnt shut them....it was freezing. We had a few empty beds in the dorm so we pinched some mattresses and blocked off all the windows. Still feeling tired from Fraser Island Amy slept the whole afternoon - if you can't beat them, join them - so we both ... read more

Today we woke up about twenty minutes before checkout trying to get as much sleep as possible. We got up, checked out and then went back to the room to pack up. After packing and studying we went back out surfing, the only real thing to do in this town. We went back that same beach which I believe is called Little Cove and surfed a again. This is the first day that I did not feel like and idiot surfing with all the locals. The locals never did mind the whole time us being there that week however you do feel bad taking waves and then falling on your face five metres after taking the wave. Anyways the waves were quite flat so you had to be very patient waiting for a wave and the ... read more

Woke up at 8:00 today. We grabbed breakfast and such and then got a free kyack from the hostel and headed off for the Noosa River about 200 metres down the street. The plan was to head inland up the river and then North into Great Sandy National Park. As it turns out the kyacks were slugs and it was far more difficult then I was expecting. We ended up kyacking about a km up the river and then giving up and drifting slowly back to the docks by the hostel. We got back to the hostel and decided we would go surfing again. There was a guy from Melbourne up on holidays with the same idea. We decided we would tag along with him and see if we could pick something up off him. Went ... read more

We ended up sleeping until around 10:30 because of the festivities from the night before. Once we were up we grabbed breakfast and headed off to the beach again to give surfing another go. We went to a new part that we discovered while trekking through the Noosa National Park yesterday. the waves were much better to learn on. The weather was still a bit chilly and I was always a little unfomfortable. I caught more waves but was never successful at riding a wave. I got out of the water about 2:30 and went back to the hostel. Mike continued to keep trying to figure out the sport. I grabbed a shower and then hopped on the shuttle back to an area of town called Noosa Junction where the Peter Pans was located. There I ... read more

http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=28996&l=b2c4f&id=503645207 I woke up today at about 8:00 four people from the room were leaving to go on a 3 day canoe trip through the Great Sandy National Park and made a fair amount of noise. I grabbed breakfast and then went to Woolies again because we had forgot to grab bread the past day. Once we returned we pre made lunch so that we wouldn't have to come back to the hostel. We grabbed surfboards supplied free by the hostel and took the public transportation to teh transit hub. From there we walked atleast a kilometre to teh part of the beach where the surfschools also taught. the surfing didn't go the greatest. The weather was bad with a lot of wind, no sunlight and chilly temperature. The other thing that didn't help much was ... read more

June 3rd 2008

We spent a couple of days in Noosa, which is a lovely little town on the Sunshine Coast. The high street was quite upmarket, well for backpackers anyway, with loads of nice restaurants, shops and ice cream shops - Lou and I are eating our way around Australia in ice creams. On our first day we went for a walk around the national park. We took the coastal path alongside the beach so we could check out the surf. I know it’s cheesy but the place so reminds me of Home and Away with all the kids running along with their surfboards! The views were really cool from the park, out across the beach and ocean. We saw a really cute koala bear sleeping in the tree as well. We stayed at a really nice hostel ... read more
