Hi! Two days have now passed on this three day trip and it has been so beautiful and incredible every time we jump down into the water. It is hard to believe there is so much life and color in the water. It is so amazing to swim and breathe in the water, you feel so alive but also so small, we all are happy that we decide to visit this island on our journey. // Miranda... read more

We arrived to Mackey Grande Suites hotel about ten a clock this morning. We spent the whole day there. The hotel got an indoor pool, two restaurants, a bar and also a gaming lounge. Here are two pictures from the hotels website (http://www.mackaygrandesuites.com.au/) //Julia... read more

We travelled north on a day with relatively strong winds. Driving was hard work. Our stone guard decided to play up again. The gaffa tape patching gave way under the strong wind conditions and buffeting from road trains so another patch up was necessary. Unfortunately this only lasted a very short distance so another operation was performed. Greg is hoping to do a more serious fix while we stay a few days with Marian. We have maintained the over-taking average we set on our WA trip last year; one manoeuvre approximately every 3,000 km. Right on target we came upon one of those slow back-packer vans chugging along at 70 km/hour. We might be slower than the average vehicle but we are definitely not that slow. Joan was so busy taking a photo of the slogans ... read more

Been very slack. Since the attack of the midges I have been very moody and irritable at last count there were 240 bites but now they have broken out on my face and I am trying to refrain from literally tearing myself apart. I can see why the doctors prescribe antidepressants for them. Havent got to that stage yet.On the travel front I forgot to say we went to Townsville. I asked wayne to take me to Palmer street in South Townsville where my mum grew up as a little girl. It was pretty much a low income area then. Now its the street to be in ... read more

Well we are still in Mackay waiting for parts for the toilet. When I finished the story on the last entry we had just got to Middle Percy Island and hoping our dingy would magically materialise. It was a lovely sunny day but the boat people were not happy. Uncomfortably rocking in anchorage I struggled to pull out the spare dingy (the one that Naomi said was a waste of space carrying) and set it up on deck, only to find I had lost the foot-pump for it. So had another frustrating half an hour hunting for the parts for that to fit, whilst I got thrown around, almost bailing and heading to a calmer anchorage on the north-east island. Eventually I had it together. Its a lot lighter than we are used to and was ... read more

16th July - Before some pre-passage checks - I've made a list from previous bad experiences - Naomi's dad invited us to check the VHF radio with him before we left. It had been fine the day before. We called him but never heard a reply via the repeater station and also never got the usual brief bit of static from the repeater after transmission. So we called the coast guard on Ch 16 and could talk to him OK but not on the repeater channels. Meanwhile, we later heard, Naomi's dad had heard our calling message, said a few things and goodbye, and signed off thinking our radio was fine! Curious but since we could still use Ch 16 it did not put off the trip. With trepidation we started our overnight passage at five ... read more

Hi all! So, today was the longest ride (distance-wise, but not time-wise) that I've done so far. The trip was 732 km, or 455 miles, and it took about 8 hours and 45 minutes. It would have been faster, but there was a lot (A LOT!!!!) of road work on the highway from Hervey Bay to Rockhampton. It seemed like every 10-20 km a lane was closed so they were only letting one way go at a time. Not much sucks worse than just sitting on the bike in the sun when it's hot and humid! Well, I guess a lot sucks worse, actually. :) It was a pretty nice day, actually. Partly cloudy, probably low 80s, humid. But it felt good going down the road. Once I got past Rockhampton, the road and scenery was ... read more

The weather is really starting to heat up. We got to 39 degrees today with about 50% humidity. We are loving the air-conditioner in the Eagle! We headed for Mackay today. We had a stop at the Capricorn Caves but decided not to go in as we had to wait about 40 mins for the next tour. We then went back into the town and Peter got himself a crab sanga (sandwich for all you non aussie Qld speaking people). It put him back $8.00 but he said it was well worth it. We then had another stop at Flaggy Rocks for Peter to get one of their famous homemade icecreams. Boy what an icecream! Note the theme here - Peter eats I just watch. We then stopped at Koumala Hotel for lunch. Peter had been ... read more

22nd October 2012, Woke up at Camilla Beach and went for a morning walk along the beach. Decided to leave early and headed towards Mackay. Spent a refreshing afternoon at the Blue Water Lagoon in Mackay. After lunch we headed off to Airlie Beach where Daniel and I spent part of our Honeymoon here. It is just as amazing as it was then, maybe a little more crowded now. The area seems to be very popular with backpakers. We had a beautiful Thai dinner with a view of the sunset by the bay. The girls had Cold Rock ice cream for dessert and then we headed off to our next campsite, Alligator Creek. Of course, there had to be drama before we got there. Daniel stopped for a coffee and heard Taylor hissing. He discovered one ... read more

Hi again, everybody! I'd first like to express my deepest sympathy for those of you who have been experiencing the cold wrath of snow already, and I'd also like to apologize for the lack of blog entries we've had as of late. There really is not much to report here. We've been working, sometimes, swimming many times and eating all the time. Fortunately for us, October has brought us heat in the low 30's rather than snow, and we've been spending as much time sunbathing as possible. Which is why I will make this short - I want to get out by the pool and spend some quality time with my book. Everyone seems to be wondering what we did to celebrate Thanksgiving (Thanks for making me very hungry with all the talk of turkey and ... read more
